Sam's Ugly Barnacle
Chapter One
By futrLPwriter
I felt a pair of eyes on me, but when I looked to the shore for what seemed like the 40th time, I saw no one.
I grabbed the last catch of the day, hollered to my crew, and started for the shore. This, of course, was my favorite time of the day, when I rode back to the beach, the sun setting behind me, heaving a load of fish to feed to tons of starving kids. Somewhere, in the back of my mind, I felt a heroic sence I both long for, and detested.
With this, I remember my old friend Sam. I remembers all the good times we had, even some of the conversations we had recently, which mostly consist of short q's and a's and commands. Somehow, I still longed for that friendship Sam and I once had, that feeling of companionship. Now he's Superman and everyone flocks about him and I, Quinn, am left with no one but my crew and my imagination.
I felt those eerie eyes upon me again and I flicked my head around franticly, searching for the owner, or maybe just an explination.
'Yo, Quinn,' a fellow seasmen calls. 'You alright?'
'Wha? Yeah, just...you know,' I thought up a liable excuse. 'Just-'
'Quinn?' I heard the familiar call and turned to see a waving Albert. 'Hey Quinn, so, how much did we do today?' We meaning us, not him.
'Uh, got a pretty good catch...'
'And how much is that in numbers, Quinn?' I never liked Albert putting me on the spot like that, making him supirior to me just 'cause he's kinda head honcho too.
'I dunno, Albert, if your so smart, why don't you count them yourself?' I didn't mean it to sound as bad as it did. 'Guys, bring it in. I'm heading home.' I leave them working, suddenly exhausted.
Travercing through the streets, I unreasonably take the long way home, seeing the town transform from light to dark.
I passed by many familar places, houses, streets, filled with so many memories. I turn to my street.
I hear yells, crashes, and rushed speach. I rush towards the sound, curious.
There, banging at my door, scaring the cats away, was a drunken Orc and a scared Astrid.
