Okay, this is just a little character piece I wrote. Keep in mind, I did it in like 5 minutes early on a Sunday morning.

And the Beat Goes On

Cameron Mitchell found himself in a dark corner of Sam's backyard, trying not to let self-pity overwhelm him. He had survived too much in his life for this to get him down. He hadn't cried as he watched his father struggle to regain a semblance of his life after losing his legs. He'd kept it together after that ill-fated mission in the Middle East. And he hadn't allowed himself to wallow in pity after his crash in Antarctica. This felt different, though. He felt like he was losing everything he'd fought so hard to attain. Jackson was finally being assigned to Atlantis now that it was back on Earth. Teal'c had decided to join his Jaffa brothers in the hopes of achieving a lasting peace amongst his people. And now Sam had been offered, and accepted, the command of the newest battle cruiser, the George Hammond. Everyone was leaving him. He'd believed he could live with it. Vala was still here, after all. Then he'd overheard her talking to Sam about accepting a job on the Hammond. The alien hadn't given her a straight yes or no but Cam knew she wanted to go. And why not? Now that everyone was leaving there really wasn't anything holding her and Cam knew she'd been getting restless as of late. His team, his family, was leaving him and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it.

Standing quickly, he came to a decision. He wasn't going to wallow in pity. He was going to get through this and move on, just as he'd always done. The band may be breaking up but he wouldn't let that stop him. He'd just have to start a new band. As they say, the beat goes on.
