The frigid air crept through the cracks. The little girl shivered in her sleep. Thoughts of the day before swirled through her head.

"You are the avatar." The words echoed in her head. Avatar…Avatar…Avatar…

"Mommy! When does the White Lotus come again?" Korra whimpered, tugging at her mother's sleeve.

"Patience, Korra. They are expected to come in the evening, but you mustn't get your hopes up. The White Lotus might not be coming," the woman replied gently, continuing sweeping the earthen floor.

"Why won't they be coming? I am the avatar." As if to prove her abilities, she ignited a flame in her tiny palm.

"Dear, put that out. Please tend to the fire and level out the ground," her mother ordered. "We need to make this place presentable when they come."

The girl sighed and obeyed. How long would she be able to wait from morning all the way to the evening?

Surprisingly, the day flew quickly as they tidied about their small home. Korra was to make a dramatic entrance, and she had memorized her lines carefully. I'm the avatar, you gotta deal with it! I'm the avatar, you have to deal with it! Oh, no! I got it wrong. I'm the avatar, you gotta deal with it! Ok, I think I have it now—

"Welcome!"

Korra pushed her ear against the wall, listening intently to the conversation. She rolled her eyes as they talked, and mouthed, Blah, blah, blah.

"Korra, please come in here," her mother called.

There it is! she thought excitedly. She earthbent the wall and said, "I'M the avatar, and you gotta DEAL with it!"

She then punched a fireball and flames trailed after her kick. She earthbent a stump by the White Lotuses and threw another small flame, then quenched it with some water on the ground.

Water tailed after her hand as she brought it up. She punched a chunk of earth out of the ground, and made a swirling flame.

It had been three weeks since the White Lotus had come to her house. Korra was brought to a compound where she trained her elements. Water went by in a breeze, although Master Katara had brought up that Korra lacked the spiritual side of bending. Earth came and went quickly, as did fire. Still, the fact that Korra was so hard-headed and lacked the ability to yield prodded her in the back of her mind. All that was left was airbending training with Master Tenzin, and then she would officially be the Avatar.
