Disclaimer: I do NOT own Fruits Basket or any of the characters, I wish I did though.

This is my first attempt at a story and will feature our beloved Akito, our disloyal dog, and our pitied Kureno!

Thank You! And please R&R!!!

Shigure glanced over to the sleeping figure of Akito beside him. Even in sleep, she looked restless and troubled. He sighed and went on reading his book.

Why couldn't Akito act like a lovesick fool around him? Just like in all his romance novels and the book he was reading, In the Summer of Love. He supposed when Akito woke up they wouldn't have time for breakfast, so he quietly closed his book and tiptoed out of Akito's rooms.

He pondered what he would have for breakfast as he walked into the maids' rooms.

"Ahem," Shigure cleared his throat to alert the maids of his presence. "I should like some tea and rice before Akito wakes up and I am occupied once more." A young maid got up from her own unfinished breakfast, unsure of how to react.

"Right this way." She murmured.

Shigure followed the maid into the dining room. But stopped suddenly when he noticed he was not alone. Kureno was supping peacefully on his own tea and some toast. Kureno looked up surprised to see Shigure at the main house so early in the morning, and dressed in nothing more than an old, sleep-worthy kimono.

"I didn't know you would visit Hatori so early in the day."

Shigure smirked at this, "Oh no Kureno! I was just finishing up my visit with Akito from last night."

Kureno stared levelly at his older cousin, "I am glad you two are on speaking terms again."

Shigure immediately fixed Kureno with a cold gaze and breathed, "Tell the maid I shall eat in Akito's rooms, but to leave it outside the door." He turned away heading to Akito.

Akito had woken up and was impatiently waiting for Shigure's return. When he entered her rooms without a knock but with a slight bow, she frowned.

"Where were you?"

Shigure chuckled, "Why? Did you miss me?"

Akito inhaled sharply at this, and turned away from the kneeling Shigure to face the wall. "No. You just left without waking me."

"My dear Akito. Be honest. What would you have done if I had told you I was getting breakfast?" Silence. "Exactly."

"Come here. You're so distant."

Akito sat up from her bed and reached for Shigure's face. She ran her long nails over his cheeks and leaned forward to kiss him. Just one simple kiss was all it took.

Shigure grabbed at her shoulders and held her tight at arms length.

"Now tell me the truth. Did you miss me?"

"Um- hm," was all Akito tried saying as she reached for Shigure.

He shook her, "A complete sentence."

Akito looked him in the eyes and replied, "Yes, I did miss you."

Shigure wondered if she had just said that to get what she wanted, but right then, it didn't matter for he was going to get what he wanted too.

Shigure had left and Akito was now lonely once more. She turned over in her bed to make herself more comfortable. She sighed. Why did everyone always leave her? Why couldn't they be more like Kureno or Hatori, who never left her? She should've kept him instead of sending him into exile. Then she could have him whenever she wanted.

There was a gentle rapping at Akito's door. The door slid open revealing Kureno.

"I thought Shigure was here." He said stiffly.

"He left," she mumbled.

"Do you need me? Or should I go now?" Kureno asked uncomfortably.

Akito got up and made her way to the doorway where he stood. "Come and stay with me. I'm lonely."

Kureno closed the door behind him, and embraced her. He ran his fingers through her silky, black hair. And tried to forget who had been in her rooms just a while earlier.
