As the boy came close to the cart Agatha shot him a glare. The boy didn't see it though because he was keeping his eyes down. He can't be blamed for anything if he never saw her stare.
"Oy!" Agatha called the boy out because it was clear that he was going to be ignorant.
He kept his eyes on the cobblestone. The girl, Agatha, was only a couple years older than he appeared to be but she was scary as hell. No one messed with Agatha's fish cart. That's exactly why he was dared to steal something from the cart. That terrifying cart. He had been able to grab hold of a fish and he actually made it across the little square before he was tackled by a man who had been shouted at by Agatha to "go the fuck after him". Agatha was scary. Very scary.
"I said 'Oy', you little ass!"
Hesitantly the boy looked at Agatha through the bustling crowd. Usually the boy was the person doing the yelling and the name calling, but Agatha could make the devil himself scared. Don't let the pretty looks fool you.
Agatha casually motioned for the boy to come over. Like a mafia boss would do. Calm but angry as anything.
When the boy got I front of the cart, she spoke.
"You tried to steal from me yesterday. Didn't you." There was no questioning in her voice. It was a statement.
The boy sheepishly nodded. He looked down at the fish.
"Look at me, boy."
Immediately he looked up to see Agatha's apparently calm demeanor. Her eyes were on fire though.
"What's your name? 'Cus it's not ass, as much as it seems like it is."
"Lovino ma'am." He didn't stutter, but the fear was apparent in his voice.
"Lovino," she said his name with mock sweetness,"steal my fish again if you wish to loose your life." Agatha smiled. "Now fuck off."
Stiffly Lovino turned around, and he hurried off, careful not to go to fast, as to not offend Agatha. When he turned the corner out of the square a small group of boys looking to be around his age stood. As soon as they saw Lovino they all burst out laughing. Lovino stood there reddening for only a moment.
"What are you laughing at you bastards?!"
They quieted.
"You go steal a fish from Agatha! Let's see how you do! I bet you couldn't even get two fucking meters before she gets you!" Lovino intimidated everyone despite his smaller size.
No one took up Lovino's challenge. Lovino had been the only one brave enough to "prove his balls" the day before.
He glared at them, "That's what I thought, damnit."
Lovino stormed off down the narrow Roman street with clenched fists.
