Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "Foolish Freight Cars" from Season 1, with added lines by tate310. Enjoy and comment.
James had been locked in his shed for several days, and wasn't allowed to push coaches or freight cars. He was feeling very sad.
"Oh dear!" he thought. "I wonder how much longer I shall have to stay in the sheds. Will anyone ever see my lovely red coat again? Why did I go so fast with the coaches? And worse of all, why did it have to be fixed with a bootlace?"
At long last, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
"I know you are sorry James." he said, "and I know you want to be a useful engine. People are telling me how bad this railway is, and I don't like that at all."
"I'll try my hardest to do better!" said James.
"That's a good engine! Nothing makes me happier to see an engine with determination. Now, I want you to pull some freight cars for me."
James was delighted, and set away.
Soon, Thomas arrived.
"Here are your freight cars James." he said. "Have you got some bootlaces ready?"
James was cross.
The freight cars were cross as well.
"Whoa, whoa!" they groaned. "We want a proper engine, not a red monster!"
James took no notice and set off as soon as the conductor blew his whistle.
"Come along, come along!" he puffed impatiently.
"We won't, we won't!" screamed the freight cars.
But James didn't care, and pulled the screeching freight cars sternly out of the station.
The cars tried their hardest to make James give up, but James kept pulling on.
Sometimes their brakes would slip on, and sometimes their axels would become hot, and each time it happened, the trouble had to be fixed, and James had to restart, determined not to let the cars beat him.
"Give it up! You can't beat us, you can't beat us!" called the cars.
"I can and I will, I can and I will!" puffed James. Slowly but surely, he pulled them across the line.
At last they saw Gordon' hill.
"Look out for trouble James." warned his driver. "We'll go fast and get them before they know it. Don't let them stop you!"
James went faster and soon they were halfway up.
"I'm doing it, I'm doing it!" he panted.
Then, there was trouble. Some of the freight cars came loose, and started going down the hill at warp speed! James didn't even notice!
"I've done it, I've done it!" he puffed. "Hooray, it's easier now!"
But his driver shut off steam.
"Bad news James. The cars beat us, and are now trembling down the hill at warp speed!"
But just then, the conductor stopped the cars, and got out to warn incoming engines.
"That's why it was easier!" huffed James crossly. "What silly things, freight cars are! They almost caused an accident!"
Edward was waiting for James at the bottom of the hill.
"Shall I help you James?" he asked.
"No thank you. I will do it myself!"
"Good. Don't let them beat you! You're doing well!" whistled Edward."
James slowly struggled up the hill once more.
"I can do it, I can do it!" he puffed.
He pulled and puffed as hard as he could, and soon he reached the top of the hill.
"I've done it, I've done it!" he panted.
They reached the station safely, and James was resting in the yard when Edward arrived.
"Peep peep!" he whistled.
Sir Topham Hatt then arrived.
"Oh dear!" he said. "Will he be mad at me again?"
But Sir Topham Hatt was smiling!
"I saw everything from Edward's train! You have made the most troublesome cars on the line behave. As a reward, you will be allowed to keep your red coat of paint!"
