ALL CHARACTERS BELONG TO HIRO MASHIMA!

She was looking at the stars. The only things in the world that, even when they have a bad day, shine. They shine brighter than everything. Every single one tells their own story. Telling someone what they've been through, even when they don't want too. It was a quiet night. The only sound to be heard for miles was the sound of the crickets chirping in harmony.

Her fingers traced the constellations in the sky.

"Beautiful," She whispered to the night sky. It listened better than any human could.

"I'll say," Said another voice, male this time. She looked over to see a pink haired man looking at her. Not at the sky.

A delicate blush dusted over her cheeks before she smiled gently at her best friend. "Natsu," She acknowledged. She patted the ground beside her, and Natsu came over to lay down next to her.

"What happened Lucy?" Natsu asked, turning his head to look at Lucy. He knew her well enough to know she only came out here when she was either thinking, or sad. By the dried tear stains on her cheeks, Natsu chose to ask about the latter.

"Natsu, do you sometimes just want to forget everything that happens to you? Do you just want to wake up with amnesia and forget about the silly little things that don't matter when life gets too hard?" Lucy asked without taking her gaze off of the stars.

Natsu sighed and turned his head to look at the sky. "Yeah," He said to Lucy.

"It's the anniversary of his death Natsu," She whispered.

"I'm sorry Lucy," A year ago today Lucy's father died. They didn't even get to say goodbye because Lucy was stuck on Tenrou island for seven years. "I know you and your dad didn't have the best relationship, but you were still very important to him."

"I know," Lucy said, thinking of the note left for her when she got back from the island. Lucy looked sideways to stare at Natsu. "It still hurt though."

Natsu met her gaze and smiled softly. "I understand," He whispered, thinking of his own father.

"Aren't they beautiful?" Said Lucy suddenly, turning her head to look at back at the stars.

"Absolutely," Natsu said back, also returning his gaze to the stars.

He heard sniffling beside him, and looked to see Lucy crying once again.

"What happened?" Said Natsu, instantly alarmed, "What's wrong?"

"I just... really want to forget." Came the response. "Please, help me forget."

Natsu took a deep breath to calm himself and responded with,"I'd be lying if I said I didn't try to forget before. I had no luck though, I just couldn't. It was a part of me. It made me who I am, and I didn't want to give any of that up. I dealt with the pain. I had the knowledge though, that my guild mates were there for me. They would always be there, and I had to trust them. I had them help me remember. Remember all of the good times I had, and hold on to all of the bad, tuck them away for later. I made new good memories. Some of the bad ones would leak out at times, but my guild mates would always be there, and help me tuck them away again."

"But I don't want the bad to surface again," Came Lucy's helpless voice, "But you'll be there?"

"Always."

"Then that makes everything worth it."

Lucy grabbed Natsu's had, and entwined her fingers with his.

"I love you," Lucy whispered.

"I love you too," Natsu responded, bringing Lucy's hand up to his mouth and kissing it, all the while smiling at her.

"I never want to forget this," The pair said in unison, laughing up at the sky.

I'm not going to lie, I actually cried at one point while writing this. Can you blame me though!? I love this story though, definitely one to remember! I might turn this into a two-shot if you guys want to see an epilogue! I would love writing that!
