iRemember What You Wore

Freddie stood at the door. His arms crossed, leaning up against the metal frame. The traffic light changed from green to yellow to red. A few moments later, it was green again. The cycle continued. Freddie started to time how long the green light was. He realized that the red light was longer than the green light. He didn't think that was very fair. Why should the people coming from one direction have the benefit of a longer light? He decided he would get to the bottom of this.

His random thoughts were interrupted by another set of very bright lights. He watched as Carly got into the other side of the car. He was content. He thought. Yeah sure he got to finally dance and hold the girl he loved. So why was he trying to only think of traffic lights and the patterns of them. He stared out the window and watched the traffic light again. He looked over at Carly. Her attention was elsewhere. He looked past her towards the sidewalk. He could have sworn he saw someone run by. He didn't want to think about who it might be. He immediately started watching the traffic lights again; red to green, green to yellow, back to red again. Red…red…red…red was a nice color. It brought out the crisp blue in her eyes and the….he shook his head. He hadn't realized they were back at home.

"Night Carly"

"Night"

Freddie watched as she unlocked her door. He was one step closer to having her. He could still smell her on him. He loved the way her blonde hair draped over her shoulders…he stood staring at the door. What was going on? He shook it off and took on last look at Carly's door.

"Give me one reason why I should believe you!"

"Cuz I came here…."

He walked past his mom, through the hall, and into his room. His head hit his pillow with so much force that he winced slightly.

"Why do you always have to pick on me?"

"Two reasons. One. Because I loooooooovvee it!"

Freddie lay on his bed staring at the ceiling. He listened to the rain pattering on the roof. Even though it was raining he had the sudden urge to sit outside. The fire escape brought a sense of Zen to him. It's where he could think and be alone.

"I'm sorry. For telling people you never kissed anyone…."

"…that we should kiss?"

"OK. It's true. Sam and I kissed"

"Did you guys…you know…like it?"

He watched as the rain fell on the sidewalk below him. He could see the traffic lights changing in their never ending pattern. He stared solemnly at the red lights. He loved red. It was one of his favorite colors…on her. It brought out the crisp blue in her eyes. He wished she would wear it everyday. Now he was more confused. He just danced with the girl of his dreams…yet…why was he dreaming about another girl. A girl he looked at everyday from behind the camera; a girl who nagged on him constantly, a girl who teased him, a girl who puts him in his place….a girl who…he is in love with.

The sound of thunder broke up his unmitigated thoughts. He crawled back into the building and headed back to his apartment. When he got there, he took one more long look at Carly's door…he wondered silently where Sam was.
