here's another one. please note that all (but my first) fanfics are written out of boredom, so they probably arent too good...anyway, please R&R :)
(are disclaimers still necessary?) disclaimer: as you know, i do not own the hunger games in any way, shape or form
I climb onto the small, circular platform, quiet and deep in thought as the glass cylinder surrounds me. I smile down at my stylist and she mouths: "Good luck Rue." I smile wider as the platform begins to lift me up into the air. I mouth back "thank you," and hope she saw it.
There is a period of about fifteen seconds of total darkness while I contemplate what could happen in the arena. I wonder what it will be like and how long it will be until it's over. Yes, I am very confident I can win. The thought brings a small smile to my face despite the fact that I know I will have to kill at least one person in order to do so.
I don't want to have to kill. The thought of murdering someone in the Games terrifies me and I look around the cylinder, my smile fading. Time has slowed almost to a stop. Either that or my brain is thinking a mile a minute. I just want to go home to my siblings, to my parents, friends and family. I don't want to go into this arena knowing that there is a likelihood I wont come out. I don't want to die here; this horrid place should not be the last thing I see. It's cruel that the games happen at all and I wonder what I did to deserve this.
I'm practically crying as I look down at my feet on the launch pad. I sniff and quickly wipe my eyes as it pushes me up into the light. I hope I don't look like I've been crying. I have to stay strong for my siblings watching at home. I take in the scenery of the arena. To my right I see a lake, and to my left a forest. I look around at the other tributes, wondering what they were thinking. Were they as scared as I? Some-careers, no doubt- are smiling in anticipation, their grins growing as they too take in the competition, arena and supplies. Others look blank or terrified. I lock eyes with the girl from District Three momentarily before we hear Claudius Templesmith's voice boom over the announcements.
I look up to the general direction of the voice and hear, "Ladies and gentleman, let the seventy fourth Hunger Games begin!" my stomach drops and I fake a smile as I countdown the required minute before we can leave the platform.

The gong rings out and I run.
