The Raggedy Man
There once was a girl, young as could be
Who discovered a man in a blue box one Saturday eve
She offered him food, but to her dismay
"Beans were evil" he'd say to her
And she stared at him with gleaming eyes
Within that one night he became her dream
To sail off with him, to see the stars he'd say
"Five minutes," he said "I'll be back in no time"
And the girl rushed to pack her things
"Surely he'll be back" and she'd smile with glee
The raggedy man, as she called him, would come to her bed
Rescue her and show her every star, planet and galaxy
The days came and went
12 years, yet not a day went by
That she didn't think of the raggedy man in the sky
In the blue box that whirled, eating custard with fish
Her hero, he was and soon the day came
That blue box whirled and stayed in its place
Out came the man saying "Hello"
And out came the girl, now 18 years old
She smiled with glee at the man she saw
Still raggedy and goofy as ever before
Still she went on to explore
Traveling fast through space and time
Maybe even stopping for dinner at times
They grew closer and closer every time
Until the day when their fears came to be
And everything seemed to fall to debris
The raggedy man who'd shown her the stars
Could not save her this time
"Raggedy man," she said "Goodbye"
And that was it for the mad man in the sky
His companion forever lost in a fixed time
Now he sits in his box alone with the stars
Reading the page of a book she wrote
And the raggedy man smiled sadly
"Come along Pond" he whispered lowly
And put the paper in his pocket
The end of this chapter it is
But the story has yet to begin
Especially for a raggedy man who sees everything
For what was,
What is,
And what could be
Thanks for reading it!
