Title: A flash of light

Author: Patrick Huu

Summary: Last reflections of a crewman before he dies... It's kind of corny. A double drabble, if you want, written while I was a little depresses

A flash of light. That's her.

She did come, a silhouette against the light.

And she hurried over. She always was one who hoped.

But it is too late. I know it, deep down there.

This is it. My final journey. I did it again, they tell me - I performed a miracle.

A flash of light and they are all there.

My friends, my colleagues.

My love.

I don't know if she knows, or if she'll ever know.

She tells me to hang on, but I feel my life slipping away.

I didn't think she would care about me.

But she came to my rescue. In a flash of light.

I am content with my life.

I have done good, and I've been in more adventures than anyone else.

Except for her.

I do not fear death. It is only the next great adventure.

But I do fear for her.

I also know he'll be there for her. She will not be alone.

I know she'll be all right.

I crack one last cocky, defiant smile at them and let what is left of my vision linger on her.

And with a flash of light, it is all over.
