"Mom! Mom! Look at what I got!" I yelled as I sprinted towards my mother's bedroom with an amazing letter in my hand. She was obviously surprised by my outburst and jumped off from her spot on the green, full sized bed. I stopped in front of her with sweat rolling off me in large beads, attempting to catch my breath.
"What are you screaming about? Is something wrong?" I sat on the bed beside her and when I finally caught my breath I handed her a ticket and a check. "Where did this come from?" She looked it over and shock took over her face.
"I won the trip. They said that even though my math skills are crappy that my science, history, technology, and language scores were so high, on the test, which I scored higher than the average collage teacher! I have to go mom please let me go." I begged mercilessly and prayed that I could go. I began to be scared because of the indifference on her features.
"Well you are almost an adult and you are more mature than anyone else I know, but you don't have and money for personal things." She stated with such a saddened tone of voice.
"Yea I do. Wait right here." I ran to my room and grabbed my key from inside my fake book and unlocked the hidden box in my closet to pull it out, and ran back to my mom to show her the money-filled box. "It's a little over two thousand. I've been saving for three years." She investigated the box and glanced back at me.
"You really want to go that desperately don't you?" I nodded my head violently, and quickly explained my reasoning for going. "The pen pal program at my school even said that they wanted to send me off to Japan anyways, but they couldn't find a way to pay for it. So if I can go I will have a place to stay, and it will be completely paid for." I waited for the answer that would change my life forever.
