It was an average patrol for Barry but with different consequences. Barry was by no means a strict person but maybe he should've been. Wally sat in central park with a bottle of Gin in his hands, he took a gulp then exhaled. Barry watched as his nephew tried to drink his troubles away.
Barry sat next to Wally, who never even acknowledged him. Wally coughed and Barry gently pried the bottle away from Wally.
"You're sixteen, alcohol shouldn't be on the agenda for you" Wally scoffed.
"Not like I can get drunk" Barry sighed. He was told the last mission wasn't a success but he didn't really know what had transpired.
"Shame really, would be nice to forget for a little while." Barry felt his heart clench, Wally was breaking and he didn't know what to do.
"Wally, care to tell me what happened" The wind picked up. Leaves scattered across the road as Wally began to shake.
"It was stupid, a simple recon mission. There was a bomb, Robin went to disarm it whilst the others stood guard. I didn't realise at the time that there wasn't enough time. Robin… he kissed M'gann and hugged me, he put the room he was in on lockdown, and I dunno how he did it. He shut us out of his mind, it didn't matter the room couldn't dim his screams." Barry felt a tear roll down his cheek, he never knew Robin could be so courageous. Barry wrapped an arm around Wally's shoulders but Wally shook him off.
"I could've saved him, we could've gotten out. He's my best friend why the hell did he sacrifice himself."
Wally leaned into his uncle as tears rolled down his face. Barry cradled him and kissed his forehead.
"Come on kid, let's get you home and everything will be ok" Barry looked at his nephew and prayed for Robin to survive because if he didn't he didn't know what would become of Wally.
