Rachel thought someone had robbed her apartment again when she stepped inside the door. There were things strewn everywhere. Pillows, soft toys of Ana's, blankets… it looked like a mini tornado had come through and put anything soft down on the floor. Apparently running a couple of hours late after work had turned the world upside down.
"Kurt?" she said out loud as she hung up her jacket and put down her purse and keys on the side table by the door.
"In here," yelled Kurt. The sound of giggling reached Rachel's ears and she headed towards it. It got louder as she got nearer to their bedroom. There was a happy squeal and clapping that could only come from one Brittany S. Pierce. Rachel smiled at the sound, but now was really curious as to what they were up to. Especially in the bedroom.
She neared the door and saw Brittany and her husband in the floor with Ana in between them. Nothing seemed unusual till she saw Ana walking towards Kurt.
Walking. Her baby was walking.
"Come on sweetie," said Kurt, holding out his hands to Ana as she walked into his arms. She smiled at her daddy as he picked her up and covered her cheeks with kisses.
"So good!" he said happily. "You're such a good girl!" His daughter started to wiggle and squirm to be put down. He gently put her back on her feet and held onto her small hands. Rachel was still stunned at the sight in front of her. Anna had been standing and holding onto things, but walking?
"She's been walking all evening," said Brittany, trying to entice Ana to come to her. "Kurt had put her on her feet while we were trying to talk and she took off towards the T.V. stand. I had to go get her because Kurt was too surprised. She was patting the screen and I was afraid it was going to fall on her."
"Ana just kept walking," said Kurt. "All over the place after that. We had to put down all the pillows and things just in case she fell."
"I can't believe my baby is walking," said Rachel, putting her hand over her heart as she bent down on her knees. "And I missed it."
"No you haven't," said Kurt. He was still holding onto Ana's hand as she tried to grab a hold of the comforter on the bed. "Have you not checked your messages? Brittany and I sent you lots of video."
"I haven't," said the brunette. "I got out late and I just wanted to come home. Oh Ana…"
Kurt got a smile on his face and turned Ana towards Rachel.
"Go to Momma."
Rachel happily held out her hands as Ana walked towards her on the carpet. Kurt hovered above her just in case, but Rachel scooped up Ana as soon as she got close with a laugh.
"You're walking on your own! You're going to be Momma's big girl, aren't you?"
Ana clung to Rachel, happy to see her mother. Her hands automatically went to Rachel's hair, which was hanging in loose curls. All three of them laughed as the little girl grabbed a hold of the hair tightly and started moving it back and forth. She let out squeals that only made sense to her as she had an adventure playing in Rachel's hair.
"I'm glad I came to visit," said Brittany happily. "Ana is walking and she played in my hair too. I think she maybe a hair stylist someday."
"And now we're going to have to baby proof everything," groaned Kurt.
"I think we'll survive," cooed Rachel as she tried to detach Ana from her hair. "Just as long as we keep the scissors out of reach of my own little future hair dresser."
