Kurt stood still in the choir room doorway. The door gripped lightly in his hand. Shock and hurt flashed across his face at the scene before him.
Across the room, at the piano, sat Finn and Rachel. Sheet music lay scattered along the floor, forgotten by both parties. Their focus was each other instead. Hands laced together, shy smiles exchanged, Kurt knew what he was about to walk in on.
As Finn lent in towards Rachel, Kurt felt his heart break. Knowing his crush wouldn't return his feelings, he could deal with. However, seeing said crush move on so quickly after his break up with his ex, hurt. No wanting to see anymore Kurt spun on his heel and left. Making sure to slam the door closed on his way out, Kurt let out a bitter laugh when he heard a muffled shriek from within the room.
As he walked down the empty hallway, Rachel's words echoed in his mind, 'If I were second or if I were 50th, I'd still be ahead of you because I'm a girl.' Those words had stung when they had first been said and now that he had walked in on them, Kurt could no longer live in his fantasy. It felt like salt had been rubbed into his wounds and just like that Rachel had gotten something Kurt would kill for. Finn Hudson as his boyfriend.
