Mello looked at the giant bice colored tree, his eyes wondered over the tree in sorrow. I didn't matter did it? It never mattered. Who cared if his wish meant the world to him? Who cared if he wished for that wish every Christmas, every birthday, every cheerful holiday that passed? He'd be happy on the day but when the next morning hit he was depressed all over again. Mello sighs, looks to his left and sees Near playing with his toys. Mello hated Near, not only because he was number one, but also because he never granted Mellos wish, like Matt. The red head would simply ignore him and play his stupid games so as his punishment Mello would beat him and if Mello felt angry enough he'd slide his hand down Matts pants and grope him, harsh enough it made Matt cry actual tears. Matt didn't cry, he was tough and didn't care about physical or emotional pain, he didn't even cry when a group of kids had shoved him into a pile of broken glass that had been moved beneath the window. He never meant to hurt Matt, he just deserved it for leaving Mello alone. His eyes dissect the room in search of the red head. Mello curled his hands into fist and stood up off the ground ignoring Rogers calls to come sit back down while L spoke. Matt did this every Christmas, he hid in some place he thought Mello wouldn't find so the blonde wouldn't beat him when he found out there were no gifts for him from the red head.
"Matt?"
Mello let out in an angry voice, he stood silently to here if there were any muffled noises in Matts bedroom. There was, a low muffled sigh. Mello storms over and slams open the closet only to see a black rectangular box. Damn that Matt, He'd kill him. He storms into the small bathroom of the room they shared and slammed the door shut.
"Matt, you're in here aren't you?"
Mello growls slowly and quietly striding over to the bath tub. He bent over and turned the knobs then clogged the drain so that the tub would fill up while he searched for the red head.
"Matt, come out, it's time for your bath."
No, no I can't let him find me tonight... Mello turns towards the closet and slams the door open. Inside were only a couple of towels folded neatly and a couple of soaps and lotions on different shelves.
"Matty...come here little one, you need a bath."
NO, no I don't need a bath and you don't need to be here. Mello turns slightly slowly leaning against the wall and sliding his foot up to the cabinet beneath the sink. He slams his foot against the wooden door emitting a loud abrupt sound.
"Aaaagh!"
Mello smirks and calmly steps forward to the shelf, he doubles over and slams the door open.
"Hello Matty..."
Mello growls with an angelic smile on his face. He reaches forth and wraps his hook-like fingers around the slender arm of the red head.
"Mello please-"
"Shhhh...bath time."
