Banishing the Enigma
A/N: This is my strange theory about Guile's past. It is based on two main points. 1) Guile has lavender hair, and his original name was Alfador. 2) In Chrono Trigger, there is a lavender cat named Alfador. Perhaps I'm the only one with too much free time to notice that...but oh well. This contains spoilers for Chrono Cross, and mild ones for Chrono Trigger. Basically, Guile tells someone (just pick your favorite character, it really doesn't matter...) about a strange dream he had, right before the battle with the Time Devourer.

I just had the strangest dream...do you care to listen? Yes? You are either very kind, or very bored, but either way.
In my dream, I looked up at a young boy. Yes, I said 'up'. I was not myself in that dream; I was a cat. Quite a handsome creature, really. My fur was the exact color my hair is now.
Back to the point...I was quite fond of this boy. I got the impression that he was the only human worth being around. He had been crying, and I looked up at him and meowed, trying to ask 'What's wrong?'
'Alfador,' the boy said, wiping away his tears, 'we have to rescue Schala!'
You heard me right, we were going to rescue Schala. Perhaps it's this mess with the Time Devourer and such that's giving me odd dreams. No, you're right, I doubt that seventh toast to our coming victory helped...
The boy and I hurried to a teleportation device, and soon found ourselves in front of a large machine. Events rushed by so quickly, I could not hear what was said. A quartet of small black holes appeared, and one of them took the boy. The walls began to shake, and I was torn between loyalty to the boy and fear for my life...being an animal, my instinct for self-preservation won the battle. I ran as fast as I could, trying to make it to the teleporter...
Are you going to call me a coward simply for running away in my dream? Have you ever known me to bolt from a battle? I thought not.
I somehow made my escape, only to find the floor beneath me trembling. I hid under the bed that had belonged to the boy, and hoped for the best...
And suddenly, I was myself again, looking into the Frozen Flame. Just as it had before, it whispered in my mind 'You think you're human now? Have you forgotten you're just a gloomy little boy's lavender cat?' and, just as you heard me say, I responded 'No...Stop it! I am no such thing.'
It is quite ridiculous to think that all of that could be possible. Even if it were true, how could a cat become such a splendid magician?
But the strangest part came when I awoke. I checked the pocket in my left sleeve- what, you did not guess I had pockets in my sleeves? I should think that was obvious...
In that pocket I found a small cat collar, with a tarnished gold tag that read: 'My name is Alfador, I belong to Janus Zeal.'
