Numb3rs
Summary: "Either Charlie's back or I'm gone." Continuation and subsequent alternate universe.
Author Note: Saw the final scene in Numb3rs and couldn't pass up the idea of messing around with our boys. I don't know where this is going, but I do know that this is only the first and opening scene for the stories that will be following this. Basically this is just a filler that allows everyone to knows what is going on.
"Are you absolutely sure that you want to do this Eppes? Think of what you're giving up. Don't make the biggest mistake of your life. Just let this go." Don looked up into his superior's eyes, making sure that he had the man's full attention before he spoke.
"All this time, many people at the Bureau told me that I had already made the biggest mistake of my life when I first allowed Charlie to consult on a case, and you know what? For the longest time I've made the mistake of listening to them. However during this whole ordeal I've come to realize just the opposite. The best thing I ever did for the FBI and for myself was letting Charlie help me."
Don shrugged at the disbelieving look on the other man's face. "I made my position clear. Either you take both Charlie and me- or you don't get either. You chose none." Standing from his chair, Don ignored the sputtered insults and stammered attempts to make him stop. Heading towards that elevator, Don caught sight of a familiar group blocking it. A sad smile crossed his face as he approached them; he reached over one of them and pushed the button.
"So that's it then? Just like that?" David Sinclair asked and Don shrugged.
"Something like that."
"Does Charlie even know what you've done? How do you think that this will affect him?" Colby Granger asked. They all knew very well that they were the last chance for making Don stay.
"He doesn't know… yet; but that's not going to stop me. Maybe it's just time to throw in the towel, and try something else. I only have one life, one family that consists of one brother. Charlie…Charlie's more important to me than the FBI. I don't want this to be between us forever. It's time for a change anyway." He looked at his team.
"You guys were the best team that anyone could have asked for, but I feel like I have to do this. Goodbye and good luck." With that final farewell he entered the now open elevator and pushed the down button. With one last smile, the elevator doors closed signaling the last time that Don Eppes would probably ever step into the FBI building again.
This is just the beginning, don't fully know what is going to happen but like I said before, couldn't help myself.
