Know there are a lot of other stories based on Monday night's episode, but I felt like making one.
Disclaimer: I own nothing that is Marlowe's (i.e. Castle).
Kate looked back at Castle who was doubled over in pain. So many thoughts were running through her mind involving the last few weeks. Among them was the saying: absence makes the heart grow fonder. She decided whoever said that was an idiot. Absence was not making her fonder. It was making her angrier.
Rolling her eyes, she decided to take pity on him. Though, it was his own fault he decided to team up with Slaughter. She put her hand on his arm and said, "Let's take you to my desk." The man nodded as his partner led him to his chair.
"Thanks." He groaned as he sat in the seat.
"Anytime." She mumbled not sure how to act around the writer any more. Sighing, the detective sat at her desk.
"You could've been killed." She told him softly avoiding his eyes. The detective knew that she should stray away from anything that could anger either of them. They had had enough anger over the past few weeks.
However, at the moment there was no way around the conversation. Unless she counted not bringing it up. But, she had had enough of lying. The least she could do was start being honest now.
"Yeah, but we caught him." Castle pointed out as a boyish grin played on his face. Kate looked at him.
"I'm serious Castle. Slaughter put you in a bad position." She remarked wondering if she were wrong in her earlier thought toward anger.
Castle nodded before saying, "I'm fine though. Why are you worrying about me all of a sudden?" Kate opened her mouth then closed it again. In no way was she about to let on that she actually had feelings toward him. Not now, especially with the way the writer had acted in the past few days.
"I'm not suddenly worried." Kate replied. "You are a part of a team, my team. I just don't like that you ditched us for Slaughter." She huffed. Castle smiled at her.
"You're worrying about my bloody nose said otherwise." The writer remarked secretly wanting to add a quip about her being his work wife. But, he knew now was not the time.
"That was concern Castle. I did not want my consultant dead." She answered before adding, "This precinct has seen far too much of it." Her remark made Castle quiet for a moment. He was about to say something else when Kate stopped him.
"It's getting late Castle and you're day wasn't the best." She said before working on her paperwork. Castle knew when his muse's words and actions were his cue to leave. Nodding, the man said, "Okay. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah." Kate quickly replied not glancing up at him. The writer grabbed his coat and walked toward the elevator. Before he left, he looked back at her desk and said, "Night Kate." She made no response.
Castle stared at her a second longer. He had his doubts, but he was pretty sure he saw a faint smile come across her lips before he turned to get in the elevator.
