Hold Your Hand

It was the strangest impulse—one he'd never really had before. Her hand was just hanging their limply next to his as they stood together in the hallway, and for some reason that Jeff couldn't begin to account for, he felt the overwhelming urge to grab it.

It's not like she wasn't close enough already. Her arm just barely brushed his, and he could feel her body heat along his left side. If anything, they were standing too close to grab her hand comfortably. The space between them would just barely be enough to link their fingers together without being awkward.

He thought for a moment of the actual mechanics of taking Annie's hand in his. She was easily a foot shorter than he was, and her hand dropped about six inches lower than the bottom of his fingertips. He'd either have to lean far over to grab it, or she would have to be implicit in the whole hand-grabbing scheme and raise hers to meet his halfway.

It was silly to even consider the logistics of grabbing her hand anyway. He had no reason to do so (like dragging her away from a raging robot, or pulling her into their secret hideout for scheming and conspiracies—god, when did he become a six year old?). He didn't even really have a reason for wanting to grab her hand aside from her just being there next to him. Abed was also in reach—why didn't he feel a similar pull toward him? Or Britta, who was standing at a similar proximity to him as Annie on his other side? He didn't even want to consider the logistics of grabbing her hand (or the bruised ribs he'd probably end up with if he tried).

Nope, it was just Annie, and her stupid small, dainty, soft (he imagined it was soft, he didn't really know for sure) hand that was mere inches from his own, every so often banging into his as her words became more impassioned causing her to flail every so often.

That was pretty adorable, actually. The flailing, not the impassioned words—Jeff could take or leave Benjamin Button, he didn't really see Annie's point about how compelling it had been.

But still, the feeling remained. He wanted to grab her hand and... what? Hold it? Stroke it? Have a thumb war with it?

Yeah, he probably just wanted to hold it.

That was weird.

I was listening to Chris Colfer's version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles, and, like usual, my mind went to Jeff and Annie. Hope you liked it :)
