Christmas Klaine Drabble

Kurt checked the time, 2:43am. The boy sighed and rolled over in his bed. He heard snoring from the couch, at least his dad was going to be well rested for Christmas morning, something Kurt would not be. Kurt rolled over onto his back and looked at the time again, 2:44am. Damn it. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't sleep knowing that Blaine was just one room over sleeping in Rachel's bed. He sighed and shut his eyes. Thoughts rushed through his mind at break-neck speed. He was worrying about his father, would Kurt choose to go back to Lima, or stay here in New York? And what was he going to do about Blaine? As much as Kurt wanted to hate the other boy, he just couldn't bring himself to feel anything less than love. He missed the other boy to no end. Blaine was all he thought about and having his sleeping one room over was not helping him sort out his feelings on the situation.

He heard a quiet knock on the door frame of his room, "Kurt, are you awake?"

Blaine.

"Yes."

"Can I come in?"

Kurt looked at the clock, 2:59am. "Yeah, sure."

As Blaine entered the room, Kurt sat up, blankets pooling around his waist. Kurt was silently glad that he chose to sleep with a shirt on that night. "What's up?"

"I couldn't sleep and I heard you tossing and sighing and I figured you were up too. Are you thinking about your dad?"

Kurt smiled sadly and patter the bed beside him. "You know me too well, Blaine. I don't know what I should do at this point. My dad has cancer, Blaine, he's all I have left."

Blaine sat down on the bed, leaving space between them, Kurt saw the hurt in the other boy's eyes at his words and silently regretted them. "I think you should stay in New York," Blaine began, "you should go to NYADA and enjoy your life here; this is your dream, Kurt, and you're finally living it. I'll watch over your dad at home in Lima and if anything happens I'll call you. We can work together on this one; you from here, and me there."

Kurt dropped his head back against the wall. "This was not the Christmas I was expecting."

The two lapsed into silence.

"Is it weird? My being here."

Kurt thought it best not to lie, "A little. It's not helping my confusion on how I feel and where I want to go from here, but it's still nice to have you here. I've missed you."

"I miss you too."

Kurt reached over and twined their fingers together, smiling at the other boy.

Kurt and Blaine sat talking well into the morning, and when Burt woke up to check on Kurt, he was the boys curled together on Kurt's bed, fingers entwined. The father smiled and went into the kitchen to make coffee.

And when both boys emerged from Kurt's room together some hours later to see Burt smiling knowingly at them, they blushed and shared a small smile with each other. Things were going to be okay.
