She awoke in a daze, momentarily confused of her whereabouts. Glancing towards the other end of the bed and running a hand along the futon underneath the sheets, she saw it was empty and cold from neglect. The room was dark save for a blue glow coming from a laptop in the corner. There he sat on the floor, hunched over and typing incessantly on the keyboard.
Sitting up, the blankets pooled on her lap, exposing the t-shirt of his she'd borrowed to sleep in. It was a little big, swallowing her petite form mid thigh, and the neck was so large it hung off one shoulder. Tucking her legs underneath, she pushed off the remaining cover and crawled over to the end of the futon to try unsuccessfully to see over his shoulder.
"What are you doing?" she asked, knowing better but not being able to help herself. He never deluged details about any of the cases he undertook. Everything was like that with him; she didn't even know his real name, just the codename he used. L. So full of secrecy, it fascinated her to no end.
"Research."
Crawling off the bed and over to him, she lay her chin to rest on his shoulder and wrapped her arms around his torso, a glance at the clock on the computer's toolbar told her it would be dawn in a little under an hour, "You've been at it all night again, haven't you?"
"The faster I send this guy to jail."
"You can't solve a case properly with no sleep." she stated. "Come to bed."
She spied the faintest hint of a smile light his face, "Ayami-chan is trying to tempt me, ne?"
"Is that the only way I can get you to relax?"
"Perhaps."
"Then don't keep a girl waiting, L-kun."
