Bill kept his arms around my waist as he dipped me back and supported all of my weight. This was his favorite thing to do when we danced just because it made me put everything on him. I had to trust him completely when I couldn't stand on my feet and he loved my having to rely on him. He always said it was better than any dream he'd had. The way he said it left no room for doubt either. Not when he would pull me close and whisper it so softly. He knew I couldn't resist that.
I was swung back up with a force I'd grown used to long ago and caught myself with my arms around his neck. He was grinning, showing off what I would most definitely call fangs. It couldn't have been more obvious that he was happy. I felt a smile of my own start. His smiles were always contagious to me.
That was when I heard Mabel calling for me. I turned my head and moved closer to Bill, not wanting to let go but knowing that, with the way Mabel was, I had to go talk to her. She was waving me over with a sort of frantic gesture that almost made me think it was urgent but a face so bright I knew it wasn't anything bad. Reluctantly, I brought my arms down and began to turn towards her. Bill's fingers around my wrist stopped me before I went too far.
"Going without a kiss?" he asked with a chuckle. A blush crept over my face and he pulled me back in, leaning down quickly to place his lips over mine. If Mabel hadn't been there to see, I'm sure I wouldn't have had butterflies starting a riot in my stomach. I was burning up when he moved away, trying to think of explanations to give her without telling the full story.
He took his hand from my wrist and brushed a thumb over my cheek. I tore my eyes away from him and turned again. "I won't be long, I promise."
Mabel was beside herself when I got to her. Everything about her expression was screaming with joy. This was generally normal for her, since she was a very happy girl, but at the moment it was a little unnerving. She opened her mouth to start and I held up my hand.
"What did you call me over for? We can talk about… That after."
She pouted a little, giving me the puppy dog eyes that had won me over so many times before, but I held my ground and shook my head. It wasn't going to work this time. He was waiting on me and I didn't want to keep him too long. More important than that, I was starting feel strange without him there and I wasn't sure if it was a nice strange or not.
"Fine… But you're giving me details of what's going on with you and Mr. Cipher later," Mabel said, putting her hands on her hips and giving an even bigger smile. She was going to hurt her face with these smiles one day. "Dipper and I are going monster hunting again and Grunkle Stan is out. Tell him when he gets back okay?"
I nodded and wondered what he was out doing this early in the day. He usually would be setting up shop right now, not running errands or whatever he did when he was out. But it did make a few things easier.
I waved Mable off and went back to Bill's side, looping an arm around him and resting my head on his chest. Everything could start today and I wanted just a few more minutes to have him all to myself. He brought me close, twirling my hair around his finger, and hummed.
"Are you ready to have the world at your feet, Bill?"
"Only if you're there with me, Doll."
