Evasive Maneuvers
"Castle, keep your eyes open. We've lost him again." Kate stealthily moved down the hall, pausing to peer around the corner. Castle inched along behind her, glancing over his shoulder every few seconds.
"There he is!" shouted Kate, pointing towards the open door as a foot flashed out of sight. Castle dashed through the door in pursuit, while Kate moved quickly along the wall to secure the room's other exit. When she reached the doorway, she nearly bumped into Castle, who was bent over and breathing hard.
"He's not in there. He must have slipped past us," he panted.
"Geez. Where did he learn evasive maneuvering?" Kate looked around the room, bending to check under a nearby table.
There was a pounding of feet moving quickly down the hall to their left. Beckett grabbed Castle's hand, and together they sprinted down the hall, following the noise.
"We need backup!" Castle shouted, as they ran past the stairs.
"Let's corner him," Kate whispered, as they came to crouch in the doorway at the end of the hall. She motioned Castle to go left, and signaled that she would go right.
"On the count of three: 1…2…3!" Together they rushed into the room, fanning out.
"I've got him!" shouted Castle. Kate looked just in time to see Castle dive behind the couch, landing with a grunt.
A peal of giggles filled the air. Kate leaned over the back of the couch. She looked down at Castle, who was lying on the floor, holding a wriggling, laughing little boy tightly in his arms.
"We knew we were going to have our hands full once he started walking," Kate laughed, hauling the boy over the back of the couch and into her arms.
"Did somebody call for backup?" Alexis asked from the doorway. She surveyed the scene, quirking an eyebrow.
"Um, no," said Castle, standing and sheepishly dusting off his pant legs. "The suspect has been successfully apprehended."
