I'm Home
Iruka sighed as he stirred his ramen around with his chopsticks, his head resting in the palm of his hand. He had just gotten off from his shift at the Mission Desk and had decided to stop by Ramen Ichiraku for a bite to eat. However he didn't have much of an appetite to really finish eating his bowl of chicken ramen. Teuchi looked at his second favorite customer in concern before clearing his throat.
"Is it not to your liking, Iruka-sensei?" the restaurant owner asked.
Looking up at him Iruka shook his head saying, "No, it's great. I'm just not hungry enough to finish it, that's all."
Teuchi nodded and said, "Let me get you a container to put it in so you can take it home."
Iruka nodded and allowed Teuchi to take his bowl and pour his ramen into a take home container. As Teuchi placed the container in front of the Academy teacher he said, "I hope I don't sound too intrusive when I say this, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your current mood is due to Kakashi-sensei not being in the village at the moment."
A blush covered Iruka's face, spreading across his scarred nose as he nodded. Teuchi chuckled a bit before reaching over a laying a comforting hand on his shoulder saying, "Don't worry, he'll be home soon."
"Thank you, Teuchi-san. Have a good night," Iruka replied before taking his container, bowing, and then turning to head home.
Ten minutes later the tan man reached his apartment and unlocked the door, checking to make sure the wards hadn't been disturbed before going inside. Closing and locking the door behind him took off his sandals, then went to the kitchen to put his ramen in the refrigerator before moving to the bedroom. Entering his bedroom he took off his hitai-ate and set it on the nightstand before taking off his flak jacket and hanging it up on a hanger and placing it in his closet. He reached up and took his hair out of its pony tail, his brown hair falling around his face before moving to the bathroom to take a shower. After disrobing and turning on the water to be relatively warm, he stepped into the spray and allowed the water to cascade around him. Standing there underneath the pouring water, Iruka thought about his currently gone lover.
Iruka and Kakashi had begun dating two years ago, a few months after Naruto had left with Jiraiya to train. Of course their relationship had started off rather strained, seeing as how before that Iruka had had the balls to confront Kakashi about allowing Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke to enter into the Chuunin Exams. Of course he was against his other former students going in at the time as well, but especially Naruto. Despite his initial shock at being called out the man, and a Chuunin no less, Kakashi held his ground and entered them officially. Of course he allowed Iruka to test them himself first before completely backing off. However Iruka had left an impression on the silver haired Jounin and Kakashi had Iruka found himself being courted by the man. It had caught him off guard completely and had kindly rejected him each and every single time until Kakashi had finally wore him down and he agreed to a date with the Copy-Nin. And ever since then, the two of them have been together. Iruka had been somewhat positive that Kakashi had just been using him to satisfy himself for a while, but it became apparent that the silver haired man was serious about him. And the moment Kakashi had confessed that he loved Iruka, the brunette male had shed a few tears in happiness before also telling him that he loved him as well.
The two of them were in love with each other and they were happy. The only time Iruka seemed to not be happy was whenever Kakashi was gone on missions, especially long ones such as the one he was on now. He couldn't help but worry about his lover, always wondering how he was and whether or not he was hurt, or even if he was going to return at all. He didn't think he could bear it if he was told Kakashi was dead. All he wanted every time Kakashi was gone on missions was for him to return and say "I'm home." For Iruka, those words were enough to ease his worries.
Iruka washed himself before turning off the shower, grabbing a towel and drying himself with it. Wrapping that towel around his waist, he took another one and began to dry it. Once his hair was dry enough he moved to the bedroom and grabbed a pair of underwear from his drawer. Dropping the towel around his waist he stepped into his underwear before grabbing the t-shirt and sweatpants he wore to bed, putting those garments of clothing on as well. After he was dressed he moved back to the bathroom and grabbed his hair brush, beginning to brush through his hair to get rid of the few tangles he had from getting it wet. Satisfied with the way his hair was detangled, he turned the light off in the bathroom before moving through his apartment cutting off other lights and making sure his windows and door was locked. He then moved back to his bedroom and closed the door, then walked over to his bed and pulled the covers back. Climbing into his bed he settled in under the covers before reaching to his nightstand and grabbing the book he usually kept there. He liked reading at night before drifting off to sleep. Opening the book to the page he marked off he began to read, his mind taking in the words and supplying images as he read.
Iruka jerked awake as he heard a thump near the window, followed by a low mumble of 'shit'. Blinking his eyes he saw his book lying open on his chest. Had he fallen asleep while reading? Apparently he had. Remembering the noise he had heard he quickly sat up and looked towards his window, his brown eyes looking below it. There seated I underneath the window with a tired expression on his maskless face was Kakashi. He was home.
Kakashi looked up at Iruka as his lover got out of bed and moved towards him. He was happy to see him again, seeing as the last time he saw him it had been three months ago. Smiling tiredly at him as Iruka knelt down in front of him he said softly, "I'm home, Ruka."
Returning the smile Iruka moved between Kakashi's legs and wrapped his arms around him, holding him close as pale arms wrapped around him as well. Burying his face in soft, silver hair Iruka replied just as softly, "Welcome home, Kashi."
Kakashi smiled as he heard those words. For him, hearing Iruka say "Welcome home" was enough to let him know he was alright and that he was alive; because with Iruka, he was always alright as well as alive.
