Winter's End

By Sharan McQuack, Launchpad's wife.

Spring was slowly, gradually coming to Duckburg. But before Spring came, there

was one last snowstorm. The Trins and Webby took sleds to go swimming. The

Trins insisted on taking the sled their parents had bought for them before they died.

What's the point in having a sled and not using it?

So Launchpad took the sled that was built to handle the weight of three kids (only

the kid up front could steer)and Webby took a kid's sled and I took a nice, tough

sled we all went sledding.

After awhile, we stopped to build a snowman. The Trins tied their sled to a tree.

Then, the wind picked up suddenly. The rope snapped and the next thing anybody

knew, the sled was out in the middle of Duckburg Pond. Which was not properly

frozen.

The Trins wanted to rescue their sled, it reminded them of their parents. However,

Launchpad refused to let them. No way.

"I'm sorry, boys, but the pond isn't frozen solid. I can't let you out there." Launchpad

said.

Then, Webby said: "Lookie at what I found!"

"It's just an old tree limb!" the Trins sneered.

"But it's big and long and strong enough to reach the sled. Maybe we could "fish"

for the sled if we work together." Webby suggested.

The boys agreed this was worth a try. Even if a "dumb girl" thought of it.

So, we all grabbed hold of the branch. Launchpad stood nearest the water and

made sure nobody got too close to the water. We manipulated the branch until

we wrapped it around the sled's rope. Then we pulled. And pulled the sled

right off the ice and back on dry land, right next to us.

"YAY!' we all cheered.

Now, Megabyte had been watching this from a distance, unnoticed. Unfortunately,

it gave him an idea. Megabyte retreated to his lab and came out later with a

snaketree. Sort of a cross between a snake and a tree, it had no mind of it's own

but obeyed Megabyte.

Soon, Megabyte stood near the Money Bin with the snaketree. The snaketree grew into a

air vent and snaked it's way thur the vent. It kept growing deeper into the Bin.

Giz saw this and was so surprised to see Megabyte standing in front of the Money Bin

in plain sight that for a second Giz did nothing.

Then, Giz rushed to stop Megabyte. Only to have the snaketree grow out branches

that wrapped around Giz. There were lots of them and they grew fast.

Giz drew pruning shears from someplace and cut away the branches. But more

and more grew aqround Giz. Megabyte was so triumphant about this, MB forgot

about the Bin. The snaketree inside the Money Bin was no longer being

guided by MB's mind, but was growing still. It went thur the air vent into

Mr. McDuck's office, just as Mr. McDuck was lighting a nice hardy fire to

warm his old bones against. Mr. McDee was so started by a mindless

snaketree snaking itself into his office, he ducked and it branched out.

A branch of the snaketree caught on fire. The fire spend backward, going back

up the snaketree towards the outside of the Bin. The snaketree burned up.

Good thing the snaketree hadn't reached the Money part of the Bin yet.

Megabyte saw that the snaketree he was holding was ON FIRE and dropped it.

The Trins grabbed a garden hose and put the fire out. The snaketree lay on the

ground, wet. Then the sun came out of the clouds. The snaketree put out roots

like a normal tree. Then, Megabyte saw this, he tried to uproot the snaketree.

It attacked Megabyte, trussing him up. Until the cops came to take him to jail.

The snaketree acted like a normal tree except had the charming habit of attacking

Beagles whenever they came to close to it. And it grew right next to the Bin.

Mr. McDuck decided to keep it, he liked it's choice of enemies.

The End.
