Amber Memories - TheManBehind-TheJokersMask
...
Zechs smiled gently when he finally found Wufei. The chinese teen was sitting in the window seat, toying with the amber necklace he had gotten him a year ago for his birthday. Though his fingers were running over the dragon trapped in the amber, his eyes were turned up, gazing longingly at the stars.
From the snippets he'd heard from Wufei and the other four, Wufei's past was a trageic one. His colonies ultimate self-sacrifice. Death before dishonor Wufei had said. Forced into a war because someone important to him was killed before his eyes. Someone he considered very dear, Duo had told him. Though he refused to tell him who it was.
Silently he made his way over to the small seat. Wufei jumped slightly as he slid in behind the gazing teen. Zechs noted the faint blush gracing his cheeks. Wrapping his arms around the teen, pulling him back he sighed.
Wufei relaxed into the firm chest behind him. He hadn't heard the other come in, too caught up in his memories.
"Mmm." Zechs burrowed his nose at the base of Wufei's skull. "Love. Why are you up this late down here alone?" He whispered.
Wufei sighed. "Just thinking, remembering."
Zechs hummed. "Remembering what exactly?"
Wufei remained quiet for awhile. "Did you know I was married? Her name was Meilin. She was to be the next head of the Long clan. Brilliant woman and noble fighter. Trained in many arts and she had this aura about her." Wufei snorted. "She never gave into me. She always came back to fight me, time after time." He muttered. "Foolish really. Stupid foolish woman, she never should have had to go out there and fight."
Zechs frowned. Was Wufei talking to him anymore, or was he to caught up in his memories?
"She went out to stop the Alliance from attcking and destroying the medow where I use to study and read. She faught for justice. She shouldn't have been out there, not caught up in that fight." Wufei murmured.
"Wufei?" Zechs whispered, leaning to try and catch a glance of the teens face.
"It's almost as if my memories of her and my colony are frozen. Trapped. Frozen in time. Like they're still there but I know they're not." Wufei's fingers ran over the necklace yet again. "Trapped in amber. Hazy and yet so clear at the same time. Forever frozen in my mind. As days and years pass they get a little dimmer, but I know they'll always be there. It's just a matter of remembering the right things."
Zechs arms tightened around the smaller form in front of him. "I'm sorry."
"There are times I wonder, what would Meilin think if she could see this now. A world of peace, no war, no reason to fight. Is there any true justice in it? Was her death worth it?" He whispered, hand clenching in Zechs' shirt sleeve. "If Nataku were here, how would she react to finding out that I fell in love?"
Zechs had no answer. He merely held the teen until he finally fell asleep in his arms.
"I don't have that answer love. I'm sorry."
