The stars were shining brighter than ever before an onyx sky. Thania was leaning out her window in hopes of catching a glimpse of the madman in the blue box. The letter was crumpled into a small ball in Thania's left hand as her gaze alternated between the black sky and her bedroom wall clock. She glanced down and memorised the digits, the dates, the handwriting…
He WAS going to be here. She WAS going to see him one last time. He was going to soar across the glimmering stars, open the TARDIS door and wave to her as he went searching for new adventures. He promised. But as the clock ticked on and nothing appeared beyond the horizon, Thania's hopes grew fainter. Was he late? Did she miss him? She couldn't have…
Thania slowly closed the window. Her room was small, dark and now also gloomy. He never said goodbye. He forgot her. She sighed and turned around. The electric blue that caught her vision almost made her stumble back in surprise.
"D…Doctor?" she managed.
"Sorry I'm late" he was lying on her bed, the TARDIS on the other side of the room covered in a field of fluorescent blue. "It was dark in here"
"I have a light switch" Thania made her way over to the foot of her bed and sat down on his legs. He looked up.
"Oh yes…" he smiled. Thania smiled too.
"I'm glad you came" she said hesitantly.
His smile faltered a bit. "Well, I haven't yet"
Thania's smile slowly turned wicked as she laid herself down and crawled into his lap like a kitten.
"I was starting to think you weren't going to show up"
"I always keep a promise, Thania, you know that"
"I know…"
As their words lingered in the air the Doctor leaned down to kiss her lips. Thania returned the kiss and slowly, bit-by-bit, fell asleep in his arms.
