Title: Dance of the Death Eater

Summary: I wrote this a while back around book 4 or 5. It's from Lucius' perspective and his view

of Severus Snape.

Characters: Lucius Malfoy and Severus Snape

Warnings: none

Disclaimers: JK Rowling owns Harry Potter and the characters involved.

I am not JK Rowling or I would be rolling around naked in a pile of

money giggling my butt off right now.

Dance of the Death Eater 12/18/03

The dawn is crisp and cold

Leaving only a shadow now

Dancers of last night's darkness

A few embers dying

A pool of red staining the purity of white

The fading scent of disease and filth

All that remains with me

A hollow mask within my clutches

My veins burn with icy fire

My eyes like pools of frozen water

My hair as white as fresh fallen snow

This power courses through me

When I look into your eyes, dear friend

I see only an empty void, so cavernous

Your true face is mask enough

So white, pale beyond the pale

Blank as a clear sheet of parchment

What lurks within you, Severus?

Is it fear, jealousy, loathing?

Or has apathy consumed you whole?

Do I dare to trust a snake in the grass?

I know of your sacred oath

To dutifully protect the boy

Keep him wrapped in your shadow

Does your word mean enough to you

To risk yourself so brazenly

Or will you stay in the gray shade of neutrality

As you always have, uninterfering?

The Dark Lord does not seek you out as fraud

But how long can I protect you

If you will not fight by my side?

Insolent coward! Were you not so slick

I would swat you down like the fly you've become

In this, our final hour, the eclipse

What is your path?

What of your other oath?

The brand which sears our flesh

This poison which binds our blood

Do you dare betray the only brotherhood

Which could ever accept you welcomingly?

You pathetic creature

As whispy as this campfire smoke

Ashen spectre of gothic symmetry

So fleeting are your footprints of late

When I see your true eyes

They flash as black as death

Accusing

Lucius as Lucifer

But I am far too cold now for Hell's hot coals
