"Merry would you stop worrying about Strider and worry more about your first concern?"

The blonde looked over to Frodo, "Which is?"

"Pippin," Frodo replied surprised, "He looks lonely."

"Probably because I've been neglecting him." Merry groaned, "Lady, I can't believe I did that!"

"Just go over there now!" Frodo soothed.

Merry obeyed and ran over to the other side. "Pip?"

Pippin didn't reply. He just continued to walk. Merry sighed and walked faster to catch up. "Peregrin Took, answer me!"

"What Merry?" Pippin suddenly shouted. Green eyes spilled tears when he finally turned around. "Have you finally decided to notice me?"

"Pip, I'm sorry."

"Yeh, well don't worry about it. Go on with Strider." The youngest shouted, "I'll be fine on my own!" Pippin pushed past Merry and didn't look back.

"How long has it been?" Merry muttered to himself. Behind him Sam spoke up.

"Excuse me, Mr. Merry, it's been one week."

"What?" Merry couldn't believe it. "A week? No wonder he's ignoring me!"

Pippin curl next to me so you will stop shivering please." Merry called over opening the blankets.

Pippin shook his head. "No, I'm fine!"

Merry sat up and glared. "Get your rump over here right now, Peregrin Took!"

"Make Me!"

That did it. Merry stood and walked over. Pippin's face didn't budge, that was until Merry grabbed the end of his ear and yanked really hard. "UP NOW!" He shouted.

Pippin tried to get away squealing in pain. "Merry! Stop! It hurts!"

"Good, maybe it will teach you a lesson!" Merry hissed. "Now move it! Blanket. Now." The blonde finished the on going threat with a smack on the clothed rump for good measure.

This time no matter how mad Pippin was at Merry he made a beeline over to the blankets. Merry sat down beside him wrapping the young hobbit up in a blanket.

"Now, Merry began a bit softer and not as crabby. "What in Middle Earth is all this attitude about? I know you're a growing tweenager but this is quite ridiculas."

"Why should you care?"

"Because it took me 28 years to raise you into what you are now and I'm not going to stop here."

"Could have fooled me." Pippin muttered. "You haven't spoken to me in a week, haven't even known I existed. I thought you wanted me to come so you could keep an eye on me."

"Look, I said I'm sorry!" Merry exclaimed frustrated. "I didn't realize it had been this long alright? I was worried that he'd hurt you."

"You mean hurt Frodo."

"No." Merry replied resolute. "Frodo can take care of himself. But Strider has kept an eye on you since we left Bree."

"He has?" Pippin hadn't noticed before. His main problem had been that Merry, his Merry, hadn't noticed he existed. "It's just that..all of a sudden you didn't talk to me.."

"I know and I shouldn't have, alright?"

Pippin leaned back into Merry curling close. "Don't do it again, alright? I didn't like it."

Merry kissed Pippin's curls wrapping both arms around the small waist. "My sweet Pippin.." He whispered.

"Do you think Strider is going to hurt me?" Pippin asked softly.

"Don't you worry, I promise that he won't lay a hand on you. If he does and for some reason I'm not there scream very loud!"

Pippin nodded closing his eyes. Everything was back to normal.
