She was a Princess from a different world.
But, she didnt know it.
Her castle was far away and she waited for her heros return.
But, she didnt remember him . . . or anything else . . .
Her mind was an empty slate.
She did cartwheels in the sand, unaware of the crown she should have.
You wouldnt have known it to look at her sand in her hair, short skirt and a hoodie that she was a Princess of Heart.
However, Kairi didnt remember any of that.
There was a hero, the boy she couldnt remember, the one that didnt exist.
Sor - no, that wasnt it.
"You mean Riku? He liked you!" Selphie chirped, grinning manically when the subject came up.
Riku . . . no, he wasnt the hero . . . a sub character, that was it.
Hmm, maybe . . . she would say to please the brunette.
Brunette . . . spiky hair . . .
She picked at her purple shorts, she was tired of them. Shorts were so . . . middle school. When window shopping, she found herself attracted to skirts . . . shorter ones; floor length just wasnt her style. She rolled her eyes at the fairy tales; luxurious long hair, the perfect complexion, the pure heart and the one the hero desires that was too clich and too boring who needed a hero?
At Halloween, Selphie had thought it was hilarious when something told Kairi to dress up as a Princess. Selphie, being Selphie, had taken it to the extreme and mock bowed down every time she past by and had convinced most of their class to do it as well. Six hours of having everyone bowing and calling you Dear Princess Kairi had nearly driven her up the wall.
"Well, that's what you get for dressing up like that," Selphie said with a shrug.
No, Kairi was anything but a damsel in distress.
At least, that was what she thought.
She couldn't imagine waiting in some castle for her hero to valiantly come rescue her and whisk her away from danger. That sounded so boring. She'd rather be out there herself; give her a sword; a magic wand whatever and she'd fight her away out of captivity. It would be amusing to see the hero's face when he learned she already escaped.
Oh, if only the books were written like that.
A hero wasn't worth waiting for.
What if they never came? What if they died?
No one would come for you then. You would die in that place.
"You're hopeless," Selphie would grumble, throwing her hands to the sky.
No . . . she wasnt hopeless, she was a realist.
The hero was just a person someone with a silly ideal thrust at them.
They could die or they could fall for another . . .
There was no hope for a hero.
But that spiky brown hair and the goofy smile . . . what was it supposed to mean?
Kairi wasn't a Princess. She didnt need to be rescued.
She wasn't waiting for anyone.
She could handle herself bring on the school yard bullies and the jerks at the mall Kairi didnt need a hero.
Her fate was hers and her's alone.
The mysterious spiky haired brunette would just have to settle on being her friend.
There was no need for him now . . .
. . .
. . .
. . .
That was until the sky darkened, the memories flooding back as she escaped into a kaleidoscope of colours.

Yes . . . after watching one too many Disney Classics, I realized the hero always comes to the girls rescue.
It was time to shake up that formula; and what better way to do that then the KH realm?
R&R.
