She waited at the bar, glass in hand. The shadow of it covered her lips as she raised it up to take a long drink of the amber colored liquid it contained. It burned down her throat in a way that would have been unpleasant to most, but she relished in it.
She set the glass back down before brushing her hair, dark like ink, over her shoulder. A flash of skin became visible as she did so and the shade of it was the kind you would have expected from a corpse. She tapped her fingers on the bar, just waiting.
The chair next to her was pulled out to allow a middle aged men to sit down next to her. "Waiting for someone, baby?" he asked. All he received in reply was a nod. "Not much of a talker, honey?"
She turned towards him, a smirk already curling onto her lips. The man wasn't able to stop himself from jerking back in shock. The only traces of color on that face were the shadows that lined her eyes and coated her lips.
"What are you trying to be? A clown?" He turned away for a moment to grab a beer from the bar tender. "You look familiar..." He said when he turned back.
"Why?" Her voice was a whisper with a slight husk in it, like the sound of leaves being whipped across the ground. "Does this corpse have a familiar face, Jack?"
The man, who had been rightfully identified as Jack, took a swig of beer to calm himself. This couldn't be the girl he was thinking of. That wench had been killed by him and the rest of the gang. And there was no coming back. But how did she know his name then?
He turned back to face the girl, shaking his head. "No, I guess I'm just imaging things, doll. By the way, how do you know my name?" She pointed to his jacket where there upon the chest pocket was a name patch. He laughed. "Forgot that was there."
"Hey, Jack, I have a question for you," she started.
"Shoot, baby girl," Jack smiled.
"What do they call a gathering of crows?"
Jack's breath caught in his throat, the smile fleeing from his lips. "I…I…" He couldn't speak, couldn't bring himself to say anything at all.
But that was alright because the girl did it for him.
"A murder."
And she smiled.
