"Hey Gabriel" Riley sing-songed, all but skipping into their joint office at Cyber Command. He looked up from the form he had been filling out, his first thought upon seeing his partner something along the lines of was he dreaming and the thought that followed was...not exactly G-rated. His second thought was that she was planning something and since it was a lot more sinister than the first he figured it must be right but either way the outcome was the same: not good.

"Hey" he replied, sounding perhaps a little more intimidated than he would like to admit. She was acting unusual and it was setting his nerves on edge. He just wasn't used to her acting so...un-Riley-like and it was throwing him off balance. Or perhaps that was her intention he mused, put him off in order to get him to agree to something he wouldn't like. He studied her for a moment but apart from the goofy smile on her face nothing seemed out of place. Perhaps he was missing something or maybe this was a new side to her, in which case he should support her.

"What's up?" he asked. It sounded casual but the subtext beneath was clear. He knew she could read between the lines and he figured if something was off she would tell him.

"You'll never believe it" she said. Her smile was beginning to become infectious and he could feel the corners of his lips tilting upwards.

"We're getting a pay rise?" he joked and she laughed as she perched on the corner of his desk, an excited energy surrounding her and preventing her from staying completely still.

"I wish" it was his turn to laugh and he found his earlier worry slowly slipping away, being replaced by a warm feeling he didn't care to analyse.

"Then what's got you so excited?" By the look of it she couldn't hold back much longer, bubbling with excitement.

"Stevenaskedmeout" her words came out in a rush and it took him a moment to process them. When it finally hit his jaw dropped, train of thought ceasing. That's why she was so excited? Who was this Steven guy and what made him think he was good enough for Riley? When had they met? What were his intentions? Perhaps he should have a little chat with this Steven, make sure he understood if he ever hurt Riley...His thoughts continued to race, a fire igniting within him replacing the warm feeling from earlier but when he looked back up at Riley she was laughing at him, her normal laugh not some sickly sweet girly giggle.

That's when it all clicked into place.

"You didn't?" he asked and she nodded, smile still in place though she had the grace to look guilty.

"That's just..." he trailed off, unable to find the words to express his feelings, idly wondering how long it would take for his pride to heal.

"Genius?" she supplied and he nodded, something akin to respect crossing his features. "I have a bet going with Nelson and Chris. If you go all out Jealous like you just did and threaten Steven they'll give me a hundred bucks. I'll split it with you."

"Ok first of all I am not jealous" she rose a disbelieving eyebrow, giving him a 'uh, huh sure Gabriel whatever you say' look which he ignored "I'm in but what about Steven?"

"What about him? The guy's an ass, it's about time someone taught him a lesson" he nodded in agreement, having finally caught on as to who the dreaded Steven she was referring to was.

"Let's do it."
