Another Robin Hood Adventure
Kenna looked out from under her hood at the Sheriff. He was riding, high and mighty, upon his horse through the streets of the poor, disheveled village. Women pressed their children back and men held their tools defensively. Kenna took great pains to keep her weapon hidden from the view of the soldiers surrounding the Sheriff.
She was about to commit suicide. She knew that. Her attempt to kill the sheriff would fail and only cause her death. But she had to stop him. She stepped forward.
Suddenly, a cry went up from the back of the soldiers. Everyone in the village turned and stared at the green clad man. Cheers started up, but were quickly stifled by the beating hands and feet of the soldiers. Kenna growled.
"Robin Hood!" cried the Sheriff. The green clad man fitted an arrow to the bow in his hand, as other men stepped up behind him. They, too, were clad in forest colors. Robin shot the arrow as a warning and it flew past the Sheriff's ear.
"Leave these people in peace!" he cried.
"Arrest him!" shouted the Sheriff and the soldiers rushed forward. Kenna knocked an officer from his horse and jumped into the saddle. She plowed through the soldiers. Robin and his men were also in the saddle and ridding for the forest. She followed them.
It took almost half-an-hour for her to reach the trees. She was furious and that made her fearless. She plunged the horse headlong into the forest and followed the trail onward. Without warning, she was knocked backwards and flew tumbling away from the horse. She was winded badly and it took her a moment or two to recover. Meanwhile, the horse had stopped and someone was speaking.
"You idiot! That was a woman!" he said. Another male voice answered.
"All I could see was a rider! She could be a spy!" he retaliated. Footsteps came towards her. She sat up and the two men jumped, drawing their swords. She glared at them.
"Take me to Robin," she snarled.
"Don't worry, lady. We shall," said one. Kenna got to her feet, brushing the dirt from her worn dress.
