Gaz sighed, a single tear trickled down her cheek and landed on her sleeve.
She gazed at the spot and watched as the tear was absorbed by the fabric of her shirt.
She sifted her weight and listened to the gentle, farmilliar squeeking of her small bed.
One of the blacklights she used to give her room an eerie glow flickered and died.
'It doesn't really matter anymore, does it? Nothing matters.'
She listened to Dib, snoring softly in the room next to hers and another tear began to slide down her cheek.
'Dad's always at the lab now, he never comes home, even to eat. not that I really miss having him around'
Dib began to struggle and squirm in his sleep, even in the depths of his unconcious mind he fought with his aliens and bigfeet.
'What's happened to Dib? he's changed so much since we were young, or maybe it's I whp've changed so much.'
Gaz reached over to her nightable drawer, pulled it open and pulled an old, faded photograph from inside.
The girl with short purple hair stared at the picture.
The photo was of a beautiful woman, around 35 years old.
The woman's long dark lashes framed large purple and gold eyes that seemed to glow with an inner peace, or was it pride?.
Shining violet hair reached down silky tendrils past her shoulders to stop at her waist.
A dainty, almost doll-like nose curved upward, giving the impression that the woman might be slightly arrogant.
Her face was afire with a smile guaranteed to break hearts.
The woman's hands stretched towards the sky, her green dress swirled around her as she finished spinning.
Gaz gazed at the picture, absorbing every minute detail, the gentle rain falling and carressing the woman's skin and creating droplets on her face, like tears of joy.
Gaz smiled inside herself,'Mother, something tells me that after that rain, there was a rainbow' She wiped her tears away with her palm.
'You know it's funny, Somedays, when I come home I still expect you to be cooking dinner'
Gaz reached to her nightable and put the picture back in the drawer.
Her hands moved to close the bedside table's drawer, but paused as she leaned down and whispered. "I suppose it's times like these that I really wish you were here"
she shut the drawer with one last glance and her mother's image before lying back and letting her tears wash away some of the sadness that clutched her heart.
