"W- Will Turner." He gasped, it was the only thing he could remember, and merely saying it had used up what little energy he had. His head swam, as he slumped back onto the hard wooden (TABLE?), and darkness overcame him.

When he finally gained consciousness, his head throbbed painfully. He winced as he opened his eyes and took a look at his surroundings. He was in a small cabin with wooden walls and floorboards. He frowned as he realised that the room seemed to be moving steadily back and forth. He reached a hand up to his forehead and closed his eyes to the sick sensation the movement caused him. He reopened them a second later as he felt the bandages around his head. 'What on earth?' he wondered, 'how did this happen?' He struggled to remember what had happened, and how he had come to be in this strange place. His eyes roamed the small room, searching for any clues, but before he could get any further than that, there was a knock at the door.

'Who could that be?' He asked himself, before answering his own question, 'It could be anyone!' He though briefly of hiding somewhere, but immediately discarded that thought, if they intended him harm, they wouldn't have knocked. He took a breath, and called out, "come in." His voice was croaky, as if he hadn't used it in days, which, for all Will knew, he could have. The door opened, and a small girl, around his age popped her head round the door, smiling. She seemed familiar, but Will couldn't remember where he knew her from, all he could remember was his name. She had long brown hair, curled into ringlets, and she wore an exquisitely fine dress. Whoever she was, she was definitely of a higher class than himself, he decided, looking down at his worn (brown waistcoat and trousers). He couldn't imagine what she would want with him.

"Oh good, you're awake!" she said, smiling, "My father shall be most pleased!" Will smiled politely, still completely mystified as to she or her father was, or who for that matter, HE was. The girl came over to his side, and sat on a chair nearby the bed that he was lying on. "Do you remember me?" she asked softly. Will gulped, fearing that she would be offended by his answer, he answered quietly, with his head bowed, avoiding her eyes. "I- I am sorry, miss, but I- I do not." To his surprise, she merely smiled.

"Well, I am Elizabeth Swann, and I have been given the duty of attending to you for the rest of this voyage." She informed him proudly.

Elizabeth! Will thought to himself, of course! He remembered waking quickly, and grabbing the hand that woke him, panicked. He remembered the relief as he saw who it was, and he remembered his awe at her beauty. The angel had introduced herself as Elizabeth, and he had told her his name, before promptly fainting. He also remembered her comforting words; "Don't worry Will, I'm watching over you." He looked up at her, and whispered, "I remember." She smiled at him, before asking if there was anything she could get for him. He was astounded! He couldn't possibly imagine asking someone of her status for anything! So he politely declined. However, he couldn't help asking her how he came to be here. "Well, "she replied, "I saw you floating on a piece of wood, in the ocean, unconscious, and so, we took you aboard our ship, to help you." "But, miss, how did I come to be floating on a piece of wood in the ocean?" Elizabeth frowned, "You mean you don't remember?" she asked, oddly quiet. Will shook his head slowly, indicating that he didn't. "Well... "She continued, "We did see your ship..." she trailed of, reluctant to give him the news.

Will's unease grew, at her hushed tones and by the way that she wouldn't meet his eyes. He tried desperately to remember something, anything about a ship that he was on, but to no prevail. "Yes? What became of it?" he asked, momentarily forgetting his manners. "It, it had been attacked by pirates, it was on fire, and was sinking." Will swallowed, his ship had been attacked! He closed his eyes, as of memories flashed through his mind.

He remembered standing in front of a wall of fire, people screaming from all directions, the smoke filling his lungs. Timber collapsing everywhere, there had been no way out! There was a glimpse of a mans face, old and wise. Will felt that he knew him, he watched as the man was attacked from behind by a filthy disgusting pirate. He remembered the rage that he had felt, as he pierced that pirates heart with the tip of his blade, and watched him fall. He remembered sobbing into the old mans lifeless body, as the cabin slowly filled with water, remembered refusing to leave him.

He was snapped back to the present as Elizabeth called out his name. He opened his eyes, surprised to find them wet with tears. He looked up to her, and asked the question that he dreaded the answer to. "Where there any other survivors?" Elizabeth shook her head sadly, "We looked, but... the ship was much too damaged, we don't even know how you survived..." Will bowed his head again. He felt a great sense of loss for a man he couldn't even remember, for a crew that he might not have known, and for the person that he might have been. If only he could remember! He thought furiously to himself. "I'm sorry, Will." Elizabeth said sincerely. Will could tell that she meant it, but he couldn't overcome the feeling of helplessness that filled him. There had been people on that ship that he had cared for, that had probably cared for him. Where they friends? Family? He didn't know, and he felt that he never would.

The old man with a wise face could have been a relative, but he didn't think so, though he didn't know why. Maybe his father had been on the ship. His father. Will suddenly shut his eyes, remembering something from his childhood.
He was 7 years old, and he was looking up into the kindly face of a woman he recognised as his mother.

"He sent you this, my dear," she was saying, "But he says you must keep it safe, so don't you go loosing this, Will." She smiled and placed something round and golden into his hand. It was attached to a chain, and it glittered in the sunlight that streamed through. He held it up to look at, admiring its intricate design. He couldn't believe that his father would entrust him with something so precious.
"I shall keep it safe forever, mum!" young Will proclaimed, proudly. She grinned at him, before encasing him in a big hug.

The memory ended, and Will realised that it had come with a feeling of loss and sadness. He could tell, without knowing how, that the woman in his flashback, his mother, was gone now. He closed his eyes briefly, opening them almost immediately. He put his hand to his neck, searching for the medallion that he had promised to keep safe. He felt a surge of sorrow, when he realised that it was not there.
'How could I have lost it?' he asked himself angrily. 'I'm so stupid!'
"Will?" Elizabeth asked, concern evident in her voice. He thought of telling her about the medallion, but thought better of it, there was no use troubling her over it.
"It's nothing, miss. I'm sorry, I am just a little tired is all."
Elizabeth accepted the excuse, and for the rest of the afternoon, they talked of all sorts of things, ranging from what little Will could remember of his past life to Elizabeth's etiquette lessons. Will was exceedingly happy at the company she provided, and from then on, the two became very close friends.

As time passed, Will's memory slowly recovered, and over time, he managed to recall everything. Everything that is, apart from what had happened on the ship, and his voyage. Or how his mother had died. Nevertheless, Will managed to go on with his life, and later became the blacksmith's apprentice. As he grew older, his feelings for Elizabeth grew, until he realised that he was in love with her. Then of coarse, came the great adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow, after which he proclaimed his love for Elizabeth, and he discovered that his feelings were not unrequited, as he had feared.

Now, he and Elizabeth were happily courting, and the past was behind them... or so he thought...
