The first time Ingrid ever had a nightmare it was just after she found out her mother was pregnant and the dream was about how after it was born she wouldn't be loved, it had come true, or at least it had seemed that way until her father was dying and finally admitted it wasn't.
This dream was different and a lot worse. The black of the poison was crawling under Vlad's skin and she was telling him to fight but he just gave her a smile. "I love you Ingrid, remember your special." And then he was gone, nothing but a pile of ash on the floor and two vampires cried over the same loss. Her's screams of agony that shattered the glass around them, letting the sunlight through.
She bolted from her coffin and straight to her brothers room banging on the coffin lid, tears streaming down or her cheeks. The top opened and the chosen one shot up only to have his arms full of his sister, crying and clinging to him.
"I thought I'd lost you." She mumbled against his shoulder and he shushed her gently, stroking her hair and back.
"You'll never lose me Ingrid, we'll protect each other and you'll get your place and the high council and be my second." He smiled into her hair and hummed gently as she calmed, falling back to sleep.
"And I'll be at your sides." Vlad looked up at his father and hugged his sister closer before telling er something she'd heard before.
"You are special, your my sister." Kissing her forehead. "I love you."
Vlad didn't sleep that night, instead he watched his sister, calming her before the nightmares took hold and being a silent guardian for the precious thing in his life, his sister.
