A/N: Okay, so first off, this is pure fluff. Really, it is. Second, this is my first foray into this fandom and I'm still not sure how I did with the characterization. That was a not so subtle hint to review and tell me what you think. This is in response to impossiblestar's prompt in annie_auggie. I couldn't find a comprehensive list of Annie's Languages (even though I'm sure it's out there somewhere) so I did some googling and some guessing. Marathi is the official language of Mumbai, where Jai's mother is a neurosurgeon. Everything else is an educated guess. Please let me know if one of them is wrong. It's extremely late and I'm writing when I should be studying, so please forgive me any mistakes as this is completely unbetaed.
Joan handed the file off to Annie and sat back down at her desk without another word. Annie had learned quickly, and the hard way, that this was Joan's way of dismissing her. She left and headed straight for Auggie's office. He always manged to cheer her up after a meeting with Joan. He was seated at his desk, as usual, but looked up and smiled as the door slid open.
"Good morning Annie."
"Morning Auggie. What do you know about Arsenio Fotopoulos?"
"Another arms dealer? Really? What is this, number three?"
"Third time's a charm I guess. Joan says she's sending me because I speak Greek."
"Jeez Annie, how many languages do you speak?" Annie smiled and perched lightly on the edge of his desk.
"I thought that would have been in my file."
"I wasn't really paying attention to that part." A small piece of her wanted to ask what part he was interested in but a bigger piece wasn't so sure she wanted to know.
"I speak Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Sinhalese, Hebrew, and Greek. English, of course. Jai is also teaching me some of the Marathi he learned from his mom. What about you? You have to speak a few." Auggie nodded.
"Sure, I speak English, as well as Russian and Hebrew. I also speak Arabic."
"Hmm. I always figured you for the romance languages. You know, Italian, French, that sort of thing."
"Hey, Arabic can be plenty romantic." He only sounded mildly offended and there was a slight tilt to the corners of his mouth that let Annie know that he was teasing.
"Oh really?"
"I could blow your mind Walker."
"Okay then, do it."
"Huh?" Auggie looked shocked that she'd called him on it, though he shouldn't have been. She smiled and leaned in close to him and placed her hand on the back of his neck.
"Blow my mind, Auggie. Go ahead, I dare you."
"Uh . . ."
"At a loss for words? It's okay, it happens." She started to lean back but Auggie caught her arm. He pulled her back down to his level and leaned in close. His hand found her neck and he used that to guide his mouth to her ear.
"ḥawwāmtī mumtil'ah bi'anqalaysūn." His voice was deep and rough, completely inappropriate for the office, and it sent a shiver down her spine. For a moment she didn't speak, but she could feel Auggie smiling against her ear. She pulled back and couldn't help the smile that formed on her own face.
"Fine. You have a point." Auggie smiled wider at this. "What did you say anyway?" Auggie's smile disappeared and a slight blush began to creep up his neck. He cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
"Well . . . it kind of loses something in the translation." She laughed.
"It must be really dirty if you don't want to tell me. I'll get it out of you eventually."
"Ah, but right now you have to get to work." She looked back down at the file next to her on the desk.
"Damn."
"Chop chop. Joan's on her way down." Annie looked over her shoulder and Joan was indeed on her way down to their level. She shook her head.
"How do you do that? Never mind. Thanks for cheering me up Auggie."
"Anytime Annie."
A/N 2:
*Yes, Auggie does tell Annie that his hovercraft is full of eels. Hey, it was the first thing that came to his mind.
