For all my readers out there don't worry; I haven't forgotten about my other story yet. This is jus one I thought up when I couldn't fall asleep, so I wrote it. Hope you like it.
Dean is 8
I don't own Dean, Sam or John. Wish I did, but I don't.
John was sitting at the table in the kitchen of the cheap motel room they were staying in at the moment. Papers were spread out in front of him. He had just gotten back from a hunt, Dean and Sam had stayed in the car while he battled the nasty ghost. Dean had asked to come, but John thought he was too young for this kind of hunt.
He heard a whimper from the direction of his son's bed and looked up. Dean rolled over in his sleep, clutching his covers and pulling them closer to his chin. His brow was furrowed and he was biting his lower lip. Dean sighed and stretched his legs out and rolled onto his back.
He's having a nightmare. John realized. He sat and watched Dean for a moment. Dean rolled onto his side and curled into a small ball outing his hand under his pillow and pulling it toward him. Sam slept quiet and peacefully on the bed next to his brother's.
John wondered whether he should wake Dean up or not, he might wake up on his own.
Dean gasped and quickly rolled back onto his back, his arms flailing to his sides.
John stood up and walked toward Dean's bed. He couldn't help but wonder if the hunt that night was the reason for the nightmare as Dean wasn't prone to having them very often.
Dean's breathing was heavy and fast, his hands gripped his sheets. He brought his right arm over his head and rolled into the crook of his elbow as if trying to burry his face in it.
John knelt down beside Dean's bed and gently stroked his hair. "Dean." He said softly. "Dean, wake up son."
Dean's eyes snapped open and he shot up like a rocket, his rapid breathing increased as he scanned the room wildly with his eyes.
"Its ok son." John said. He sat on Dean's bed, leaned against the headboard and pullied his son onto his lap and close to his chest.
Dean curled himself into John and wrapped his arms around himself. His breathing was growing calm as he started to relax.
"Have a nightmare?" John asked, knowing the answer.
Dean nodded.
"Want to tell me about it?"
Dean nodded again and after a pause said; "It was Sam. He was lost and I couldn't find him and when I looked for you, you weren't there either. Then I was standing in the forest alone and then something started to chase me. I couldn't see what it was, but I could feel it behind me and I could hear it breathing." Dean shuddered and John tightened his grip on him. "I could hear Sam calling me, but I didn't know where he was and I didn't want to lead the thing chasing me to him, so I just kept running and running. Then I heard Sam yell, the thing behind me was gone, I… I think it went after Sam. I called for him, but he didn't answer and I called for you and you didn't answer and I was alone in the forest."
John rubbed Dean's back as he held him. "Its ok now son, both Sammy and I are here and we aren't leaving you." He kissed the top of Dean's head. "Your safe."
Dean sighed a calming sigh and closed his eyes. John rubbed Dean's back to relax him and help him fall asleep and in a few minutes Dean was asleep in John's arms. Even though Dean was asleep John didn't want to let him go he continued hold Dean close and rub his back. His heart swelling with love and pride as he watched his son sleep.
So, what do you think? Just a short on shot thing, unless request states that it should go on. If it does though, I'll finish my other story first. Please review and tell me your thoughts. I'm pretty sure this is a one shot thing though, I wouldn't know what to put next.
