It was Edward's first day of Ben Franklin. To say he was nervous was an understatement.
"No one's gonna want to talk to some weird Texas kid," he muttered to himself.
He just wanted to walk in there and fit in. Of course his mother had to make him ride the van. "Free air condition and heater, sweetie. The bus doesn't get that."
It was a loss cause to argue. "Fine," he said as he shut the door to his mother's car.
He opened up the door to the van and immediately sat down in the front. Eddie rummaged through his bag, grabbing his iPod and earphones and angrily placing them in his ears.
He watched as other students were packed into the van.
Eddie leaned over to grab his phone out of his backpack's front pocket when he collided heads with someone.
"Oh shit. I'm so sorry," said a deep voice next to him.
Eddie looked up to see a beautiful black treasure in front of him. Short, a mini fro, cute teeth, and light brown eyes; Eddie observed every physical trait of this new specimen. And that voice, don't forget that voice. It was the most deep and sultry voice Eddie ever heard in his life.
He completely forgot he was staring until the guy talked again.
"You okay, man?"
Eddie shook his head nervously. "Oh! Uh...yeah, sorry."
The black boy grinned slightly, putting his instrument case up in the front and sat down to the right of Eddie.
"Well I'm Jonathan. But you can just call me Jt."
Eddie smiled for the first time that day.
Jt watched as Eddie's eyes crinkled as he smiled and thought it was the cutest thing he'd ever seen. He counted every blemish on Eddie's white face and gazed at his untidy brown haircut.
"Edward. But you can just call me Eddie."
They both laughed already warming up to each other.
Maybe this year won't be that bad after all, Eddie thought.
