He sat there, staring at the growing pool of blood beneath the rubble that he caused to come down. He didn't mean it. It was an accident. He was hoping to hurt someone else. That bastard Envy. But he hurt-killed- the poor human being that was being manipulated by him. He was innocent. He didn't know what he was doing. He was trying to fulfill empty promises. Probably the promise of immortality. The poor promise that Ed knew would never come through.
The puddle was slowly creeping towards him as he had the same blank expression on his face. Envy got away, but that didn't matter now.
"I'm sorry…" he whispered to the puddle. "I'm so sorry…"
I stood a way back behind him, waiting for the right moment to move to him. Or maybe for me to become unfrozen. I managed to step towards him a little and my footstep made a sound. A sound that echoed throughout the empty and slightly collapsed building.
"No," he said back to me without turning and looking at me. "Stay there"
"Ed," I whispered, but he managed to hear it. "I'm coming over."
"No, stay there… The ceiling could collapse again…"
I took another step towards him and he actually turned his head.
"I want you to stay there," he said. His voice was just dripping with sadness. "I can't lose you…"
I just listened and stayed silent and still as he continued to say silent apologizes to the poor man under the rubble. Minutes passed, though it felt like hours. It hurt bad that I couldn't go over and comfort him. Eventually, I got tired of waiting. I slowly crept toward him trying my hardest not to make a sound. I was so close when I accidentally made a noise. He turned around to find me but it was already too late. I was too close for him to tell me to stay.
"I thought I told you to stay…" he said, looking up at me.
"Ed, I know you told me to stay for my safety," I started. "That's the most of it. The other part? You want to be alone."
"That's not-"
"It is true, Edward. And I'm not going to let you be alone. Not after this."
"Raven, I-"
"No. I'm not going to leave you alone."
I closed the gap between us and hugged him. It took him a while but he eventually hugged back. I felt it all. His grief, sadness, and regret and that poor man's death. It hit me so hard that I started sobbing while he shed tears silently. A wet spot formed on my shoulder as a puddle formed on Ed's arm. I couldn't take it anymore; we had to get out of here.
I tried pulling away from his hold but he was holding me so tight.
"Edward," I finally said gaining his attention. "Maybe we should leave. O-or at least tell somebody…"
"Y-yeah," he whispered just loud enough for me to hear him. "We probably should…"
Finally, he stood pulling me up with him. I looked down and saw that the puddle of that poor man's blood was so close to our feet now. I moved back a little as Ed let me go reluctantly. He still held onto my hand though. As he stared at the rubble and blood I took a few steps away and gently tugged his hand. He looked at me and actually smiled.
"Let's tell HQ what happened then head home, okay?" He said to me. I looked at him questionably and worried. "I'm fine now, thanks to you."
I blushed and smiled at him a bit. This is going to affect him a lot but I'm not going to leave him alone. He may be happy on the outside, but inside, he's hurting. I would do whatever it takes to make him happy when we get home.
