I don't own any character except Terra.

A little girl of five years old was being lead into the private quarters of the boss's chambers at the headquarters. Everywhere she looks there are people in uniforms with the big red 'R' on them and refer to her father as the 'boss' or 'sir' yet she would call him 'Daddy'. Those same people call her 'little miss'. However, today seemed a little off for the little girl. The atmosphere seemed different to her. She knew that something was different today when two employees named Jessie and James brought her to her father's office. On any other day she would not have been permitted there. Jessie and James knocked on the door and a man shouted for the three of them to come in.

Since this was the first time that the little girl was allowed in there she was taking in everything. To her it was a humongous office that had a neutral color schemes but had the tiniest touches of red in the finite details. Her father's Persian was lying on the floor next to the desk but perked up its head as soon as the little girl came in. The large cat walked up to the girl and allowed her to hug and pet the creature. The man sitting behind the desk chuckled a little bit. He then asked his daughter to take a seat on his lap, which immediately worried the young girl as the last time he did this was when he told her the news that her mother and grandmother had died.

"Hello Princess" he nodded to Jessie and James, "You two can stay as I will be assigning you two your roles". A 'yes sir' chirped from the two of them. "Princess, I am afraid that Daddy has some bad news…I have to go away on business for an undetermined length of time. In the meantime Jessie and James will be watching you while I am away. However, I am going to be giving you a special job to do while I am away" The little girl displayed a mixture of sadness but excitement within her eyes. "Terra, you are going to be running Daddy's gym and defend its honor. I've already worked it out with the Pokémon league officials and the Pokémon from the gym have been ordered to listen to you. Also since Persian will be with me while I am away…I have these Pokémon for you to have as pets." The man pointed towards a group of pokéballs. "These Pokémon are to be pets and are not for battling. Do you understand, Princess?" The man looked over to the little girl and saw her head shake numerous 'yes' to him. He could tell that his daughter was getting more and more excited to open the pokéballs. "Why don't you go and open them?" She first gave her dad a hug and then leaped off his lap and rushed over to the table that displayed the pokéballs.

She grabbed the first ball and threw it and out popped an Eevee. It leapt into her arms and snugged up to her. "I think that I will call you Vee." Vee then jumped out of her arms and started walking around the room exploring everything while looking as cute as an Eevee can be.

The next ball contained a Growlithe. The puppy Pokémon sat in command and barked a 'hello' to its new master. Little Terra could not help but chuckle and stated that its name was going to be Flamie. She told Flamie to round up Vee and to sit in front of the desk. The pokemon followed the command at ease though Vee was a bit too much to handle. The third ball contained a Vulpix that acted like a prima donna who was dubbed Kitsune. Kitsune accepted its new name then walked over to the other and curled up next to Vee. The next three pokéballs contained the three Eevee evolutions, Vaporeon (now known as Bubbles), Jolteon (now known as Mitsuko), and Flareon (now known as Hotaru). Her father told her that they had been triplets when they were born so they all had the same personality of being playful yet loyal to her. There were three more balls for her open. First two were a Ninetales (Cassandra) and an Arcanine that was named Haetae. Terra grabbed the last ball when her father told her to wait a moment.

"This next Pokémon is a special gift from not only me but from Persian as well. It is her only child…so it is a Meowth. After you name him dear, you are to be dismissed and remember to behave the way I told you to." Terra nodded that she understood how important and special this Meowth was. A smaller than average size Meowth appeared from the ball. It jumped into the girl's arms and cried like a new born kitten would. Looking into the Meowth's eyes, she decided to call it Denari. After it cried in approval, Terra thanked her father once again and told the Pokémon to follow her. Her father just gave her a warm smile and chuckled after telling Terra that he would be there for tonight's dinner.

Next Day (Italicized means Terra's thoughts)

"Wakie…Wakie! Time for breakfast and then you have your first gym match later today!" The five year old slowly opened her eyes and saw James there. Terra slowly emerged like a Butterfree that had once been a Metapod. Let's just say that no five year is a morning person especially this one. The Pokémon that she had received yesterday woke up as well, yawning away their sleepiness. They came to attention and followed their master out of the bedroom.

Terra arrived to the kitchen in her nightgown and saw Jessie who was already at the table eating her breakfast that had been prepared by the servants. James sat down next to Jessie and began eating as well. The servants brought out Pokémon food for Terra's new playmates and then place the usual food in front of her.

Terra looked around and then asked Jessie and James where her father was. The two of them looked surprised but then remembered. "Terra, your father had to leave in the middle of the night after you went to bed for the business trip. He'll be back in about three to fourmonths." The two of them could tell that Terra was upset by this and no amount of Pokémon could cheer her up. However, Terra decided that she had to stay strong for her father and the family gym. After everyone completed their breakfast, Jessie took Terra back to her room to help her pick out an appropriate outfit for her first gym battle, which would be taking place later that day.

Later That Day at the Viridian City Gym

The doors slowly opened as the gym's two bodyguards that were stationed outside brought in Terra's first challenger. Her first opponent was a young boy that was at least ten years old who displayed the same pain that she experienced with her father in his eyes. He had light brown hair and wore a green jacket. In Terra's opinion, he was cute. The boy stood in the challenger's box and declared that he was Green from Pallet Town and that he wanted to challenge the gym for his final badge. Terra decided that is was time step forward from behind the curtain and suddenly the boy started chuckling.

"Who are you? If your, the gym leader's kid well go get them. I cannot battle your…underage. If this is a joke that the gym leaders plays then it stinks." Green was displaying that he was starting to get annoyed and was wondering who this kid could be.

Getting angry Terra shouted "I am the temporarily gym leader, Terra. I am filling in for my father while he is away. This gym battle will be a full on battle with no time limits. Let the battle begin." Green stood there in disbelief until Terra pulled out a pokéball containing her father's Nidoking. The guards, who knew that Terra was being serious, banged their canes into the floor to commence the battling to begin. Only until Nidoking was sent out did Green realize that everyone there was serious. He then decided to send out his Blastoise whose cannons on its back were locked and loaded for battle.

"Nidoking horn attack!" The giant purple Pokémon began to charge and sent Blastoise flying into the wall of the gym. Green told his Blastoise to do hydro pump. Terra replied back with poison sting. Nidoking was able to dodge the hydro pump and sent the poison sting in return. The battle raged on for over three hours in this manner. One Pokémon after another fainted until finally the guards shouted "The match goes to Green of Pallet Town. He shall receive the gym's badge." Guard number one went over to Green and released a scroll that had the badge dead center of it. Green lifted it off and added into his badge case. He realized that he now had enough to compete in the League. Terra just stood there in disbelief. She could not believe that she lost. At the same time Jessie and James, who had been dressed in normal clothing, took her father's pokéballs from Terra's hands and went over to the Pokémon center so the team could be healed before tomorrow's match.

"Thank you Terra! That was a great match." Green shouted to her. A tiny 'thank you and congratulations' escaped the little girl's lips as she was still coping with the stunning pain of defeat. Feeling so embarrassed she quickly disappeared behind the curtain.

At the Gym (Next Day) (A/N Red's Pokémon are based off of the HeartGold and SoulSilver set at except at this point are at lower levels)

Another challenger came to the gym except this time he wore a hat and a red jacket. This opponent was very nice and friendly towards Terra. The only things in common between the two opponents was their shock at Terra's reveal. It seemed that everyone was expecting her father. The challenger introduced himself as Red of Pallet Town and he was competing for his final badge.

"Well I am the temporarily gym leader, Terra. I am filling in for my father while he is away. This gym battle will be a full on battle with no time limits. Let the battle begin." Even though he was surprised like Green from yesterday, Red was actually respectful and accepted that she was his opponent. The guards commenced the battle and so to begin. Terra decided to send out the same Nidoking from yesterday's match while Red sent out his Blastoise. "Nidoking use poison sting then horn attack." Nidoking's horn started to glow purple as he began to charge towards the Blastoise. "Blastoise use hydro canon then use blizzard." The giant blue Pokémon dug its feet into the ground and leaned forward so the cannons on its back could aim with accuracy. All of the attacks hit their respective targets with maximum damage to both sides. The battle raged on for over five hours similar to yesterday's match. One Pokémon after another fainted until finally the guards shout that Red had won the gym match.

Unlike yesterday, Terra actually went down and presented the badge to him and congratulated him on a job well done. Terra also told him that she expected him to be battling the champion, Lance, soon and that she would be watching it as well. Red thanked her and then left the gym while Jessie and James once again took her father's Pokémon to the Center. Terra returned back to go behind the curtain where Denari was.

"Denari…why can't I be as good as Daddy?" Terra asked, looking at him while he climbed up onto her neck.

"Well w'at you expect Terra. Your Dad has been a trainer for many years and to become a gym leader is a massive challenge. Besides your're only five years old and those were tough battles. All this battlin' is tirin' you out. Let's go play with the others!" Denari stated while rubbing his cheek with hers. Terra had been teaching Denari to talk ever since she got him. The little guy was a fast learner.

"You're right Denari. Alright let's go play." Terra started to run back to the house with Denari hanging on. Thankfully there were no more matches scheduled for the next few days.

Denari was right. Terra did get the hang of battling so much that she started winning matches during her Dad's initial time away from home. She ran the gym so well during that initial business trip that her father's trips were becoming more frequent and longer. Jessie and James continued to watch over her and eventually became her closest friends. The three of them continued to teach Denari to talk and help him out with pronouncing words in between battles. Terra only lost to five trainers, who were all worthy opponents. However, soon she will be able to get her full Pokémon license and be able compete in the following leagues; Kanto, Jhoto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. She could not wait until she turned ten.
