Jim paced up and down the hallway of his hotel room in Tallahassee anxiously, cell phone in hand, debating whether or not he should call Pam, given what had just happened with Cathy. It was about 9:30 now. The kids were asleep, hopefully, but she probably wouldn't be yet. There was no reason to worry her, right? Pam never liked Cathy, she felt threatened by her. It hardly made any sense to Jim, he was head over heels for Pam. He always had been. Did she think some brunette in a pencil skirt was going to come in and take her place? That would be impossible. Nothing had happened, but Jim would much rather that Pam hear it from him than anybody else. He should call. It was the right thing to do. He had been straightforward and denied her, so there was no reason for Pam to worry, right? He picked up his phone and dialed her number, anxiety increasing with each ring of the phone.
"Hey," Pam said happily, and Jim smiled.
"Hey." Jim said, now a bit more calm. "The kids go down okay?"
"Cece misses you. We all miss you."
"I miss you, too. All of you. I'll be home soon."
"I've been counting down the days. Cece's counting, too, although I'm kind of afraid that I'm accidentally teaching her to count backwards."
Jim laughed. "Oh, I love you, Beesly."
"Love you, too, Halpert."
"C'mon, Halpert, man up and do it." Jim thought. "Hey Pam? I have to tell you something."
"Is everything alright?" She asked nervously.
"Yeah, yeah, everything's fine," he assured her before continuing. "It's just that, something happened tonight, and I wanted you to hear it from me and not anybody else."
"Oh God, Jim." Pam said, not knowing what to say, or what to expect Jim to say.
"Cathy tried to make a move on me, Pam. I flat-out told her that I was happily married, which I am, and she said that wasn't what she was trying to do, but I left the room for two minutes and when I came back out she was in my hotel bed, under the sheets." Jim left out that she was naked, though he guessed that Pam had filled in that blank herself.
"Why was she in your room?" Pam asked. Jim could tell that she was angry, though she was trying to hide it.
"She said her air conditioner was broken. Pam, I am so sorry. I should've told her no from the beginning. I tried to get Stanley to stay when he came by, I tried to get Dwight to get her to leave, but if it helps, Dwight did spray her with an array of chemicals he found on a maid's cleaning corral.
"I'm a terrible person, but that helps a little bit." Pam said, no longer angry.
"You're not a terrible person." Jim consoled.
"I just want you home," Pam said, almost a whimper.
"I know babe, I miss you more than words can say. I can't wait to see the kids, either."
"Phillip said his first word today," Pam said.
"He did not!" Jim said, cursing himself for missing it.
"Yeah, you're right, he totally didn't." She laughed.
"Ouch, Beesly. That was a low blow!" He admonished sarcastically.
"I mean, at least I'm not blaring "Cat's in the Cradle," right?" She giggled.
"I am going to kiss the heck out of you when I get home, Beesly."
"Bring it, Halpert. Oh, I have to go, Phillip is crying."
"Love you, Pam. Thanks for understanding."
"Thanks for being the greatest husband a girl could ask for. Love you too."
