A/N- Okay, this is my first Invader Zim fic. I usually just write Harry Potter stuff, but this idea popped into my head. It probably won't make much sense, as I wrote it at 2 am. But if for some reason you like it, R&R.
" 'Oh no, its Zim' they'd said. They didn't think I heard them, but I did. 'Its not stupid, its advanced.' What a laugh." he said sarcastically.
"Master?" GIR called. "Where are you?"
"In here GIR, but I'm busy. Go...play...or something." Zim called from the lab.
"Kay!" GIR cried happily, running off to do just that.
"The Tallest were wise to choose me." he mumbled to himself. "Its amazing how hard I try to fool myself. They all pretend I'm on a special mission, for my accomplishments, for service in the past. But I know. I know what they really think of me. They think I'm a fool, blind to their tricks. But I know."
He sighed sadly. Did they think he messed up on purpose? He knew he was a bit...inept. But he tried as hard as possible. He truly wanted to be a great invader. What Irken wouldn't? But he seemed to have the worst luck in the world. Nothing ever worked out. But he still tried, God how he tried.
"You think I don't know?" he yelled at the monitor he used to talk to the Tallest. "Of course I know! You sent me here, to get me out of the way. You just want me out of your hair, so you can invade the galaxy without me. You want me to disappear. To forget I exist. But I don't let you, do I?"
"I know what this assignment is." he went on after a while. "It wasn't even supposed to be an assignment. You didn't know a planet was here. You hoped I'd keep traveling, until I was too far gone to come back. Well, looks like the joke was on you. You'd just love to be rid of me, but I won't let you. You may have sent me here by accident, but I won't give up."
I'll never give up, he thought. This may be an accident, but I'll prove to you I can be an invader. I'll gather information, I'll fight that fool Dib, I'll put up with that collection of scrap you gave me for an assistant. And I won't let you forget me. Much as you would love that. I'll do this, even if I have to take over this planet alone. But I won't be forgotten. I may be alone here, but I'll still do the work of an invader. Someday, I'll prove to you I'm not such a klutz, a moron.
"Hey Master, who ya talking to?" GIR called through the door.
"No one GIR!" he yelled.
You're being too loud Zim, he told himself. Even GIR might think something is up. No, that gives him too much credit. That had been the final insult, that robot. He had been able to deal with their comments behind his back, their pretending, their attempts to forget him. Like banishing him to Foodcourtia. But giving him GIR, something they built in ten seconds from stuff in a garbage heap, and pretending it was an advanced model. Of course he had played along. But inside, he hurt. How little they thought of him. They thought it was hard to put up with him? Try being him.
GIR was wandering around the house again, and decided to go bug ZIM some more.
"Hey Master? Let's go get some tacos!" he cried insanely. The only sound he heard through the door was a bitter weeping.
