A/N: It all started with my failing Additional Mathematics. *sigh*
Anyway, hope you like this rough oneshot I came up with!
Akaito gritted his teeth, trying to tell himself time and again that it's just a stupid test and not worth brooding over. It's not like he's never failed a test before; in fact, he always fails. But this time's different. He put in effort. God knows he did.
Considering the effort, it's impossible to fail. He actually hoped for a pass, no, an 'A' at least.
It's not supposed to turn out like this! How on earth did he fail? He answered every question. His handwriting was perfect for someone like him. He even bothered to go into every detail to ensure he gets a pass. And this is what he gets! No!
Mikuo watched as Akaito fumed. They weren't really friends, but Mikuo considered talking to Akaito. It's foolish because Akaito is known for being rash and all, but Mikuo just felt that little something urging him to go over and talk.
Mikuo decided to be brave this one time. He stood up and walked over to Akaito. Teal is going to meet red now. Mikuo hoped nothing but their hair colours will clash.
"Akaito, what did you get?" Mikuo tried to sound casual. Tried to hide his rapid heartbeat.
Akaito looked up at Mikuo, blinking. "Now what business do I have with you? Did I rob you?"
"I just thought... I'd come over and talk." Mikuo realised his stupidity a bit too late.
"I failed. Cheers." Akaito couldn't understand why Mikuo would suddenly come close like that. Mikuo isn't exactly a social butterfly.
"Um... I failed too." Mikuo attempted a laugh, but it sounded more like a cry. "Uh, the thing is, cheer up, okay?"
"I don't even know you. Spit it out. What do you want with me?" Akaito said, "I'm not in the mood to play guessing games with you, in case you haven't noticed."
"I just wanted to cheer you up, is all... You look sort of lonely, fuming alone like that." Mikuo shrugged. "Everyone else has someone to cheer them up."
"You don't, do you?" Akaito looked around. "Apparently no one misses you."
"Oh, I sort of peel off when everyone's busy." Mikuo scratched his head.
Akaito looked at Mikuo long and hard. "You're an idiot, you know that?"
"Yes, I do." Mikuo tried to smile. "I think."
"Don't try cheering people up when you're down, idiot." The corners of Akaito's mouth turned up a slight bit.
Mikuo attempted another laugh again. This time it sounded real. It sounded like a real cry. "I... I'm sorry for bothering you. Sorry." He turned to leave.
"But thanks," Akaito said after a while.
"You're welcome," Mikuo replied. It was a reflex mechanism he took up over the years, the same as saying 'thank you' when he receives something.
"Idiot." Akaito couldn't help smiling.
"Sorry." Mikuo scratched his head.
"No." Akaito stood up and walked over to Mikuo. He put a hand on the teal hair and ruffled it. "Idiot." He laughed.
A friend's laughter is like music to Mikuo's ears, so he smiled in response. "Oh."
"You're unbelievable." Akaito sighed, a grin etched on his face. "I like that."
Mikuo laughed an uneasy laugh, and it didn't sound like any cry at all.
A/N: This is how I write when I'm emotionally unstable... Things get muddled up and I don't care to put it straight at all... Bwehhh
