"So I guess I'll see you, I'll see you around." – Honestly, Cartel
It was wrong on too many levels. Well, just one level. The Stella level. She was their best friend. They fought it for as long as possible. After Stella's surprise party things escalated. Macy was "officially" their friend, part of the gang. She wasn't just an obsessed superfan anymore. Joe rand out of excuses. They were walking a fine line.
Nick was composing in the art room again, Kevin had a study session in the library with his history group, and Stella was home with the flu. Macy and Joe were sitting together, alone, at lunch. They found way too much common ground. It was almost surprising. Joe and Macy loved dancing. They loved parties. They loved teasing Stella about texting. They loved M&M cookies. They loved motorcycles.
Joe offered to give Macy a ride home in his sidecar. Joe shouldn't have asked. Macy shouldn't have said yes. They were heading into dangerous territory. Kevin had cheerleading practice after school and Nick had been dismissed early for a dentist appointment. Macy and Joe were alone again.
Joe walked Macy to her door and they both stood there awkwardly. Macy hesitatingly invited Joe inside. Joe was quiet for three minutes (and twenty six seconds) before nodding his head yes. They went inside and decided to watch some TV. Macy had no idea what they were watching. She was hyper-sensitively aware of Joe sitting soclose to her. Joe shifted and froze when their thighs touched. Macy stopped breathing.
Then Joe was off the couch and halfway across the room. Macy stood up and they looked at each other miserably. They then found themselves with barely any room between them, unsure when they had moved.
"So I guess I'll see you. I'll see you around." Joe whispered.
"Guess so." Macy replied softly. Then Joe quickly turned and began to leave. Macy released a miserable sigh. Joe came back into the room and kissed Macy fiercely. She kissed him back.
