This is an anthem to the homesick
For the beaten
The lost, the broke, the defeated
A song for the heartsick
For the standby's
Living life in the shadow of a goodbye

Even as a girl she was beaten down. Lost and wanting her parents, she was homesick. She was always homesick but as she sat down on the bed of yet another care home she realized she wasn't homesick. How could you be homesick if you had no home because she didn't, she was an orphan. By the time she was eighteen she had extinguished any hope of her parents finding her and taking away her heartache, who would want little lonely Emma Swan?.

Do you remember when we learned how to fly?
We play make believe
We were young and had time on our side
You're stuck on the ground
Got lost, can't be found
Just remember that you're still alive

That all changed when Henry showed up. He told her she was a fairytale character and just for a minute she believed him, she wanted to believe him because for some strange reason she felt at home in storybook. She felt like she had a place of belonging but then she stopped believing. How could she give herself have a false hope of finding her family? That dream couldn't come true so she shook her head in the sand and refused to believe what was right in front of her. A family.

I'll carry you home
No your not alone
Keep marching on
This is worth fighting for
You know we've all got battle scars

Everyone watched as she soldiered on through Neal's "death" and acted as if it didn't hurt as much as it obviously did. She plundered deep into Neverland to save her son and seemed unconscious of the fact that in order to save him she needed to be alive.

You've had enough
But just don't give up
Stick to your guns
You are worth fighting for
You know we've all got battle scars
Keep marching on

In moments of danger you knew she was the product of charming and snow, she would stop at nothing for the one's she loved. Yet in the entirety of her own home she broke down. She had lost the will to fight. Henry hugged his mother and told her that if she didn't want to fight she didn't have too but if she did it was ok to have a rare moment of weakness, she was human after all.
