Author's Note: I hope this is all right – it was my first experience in speed writing, as this is for the Pairing One-Hour Challenge Reboot over on HPFC. Hope you enjoy :)

Not the First Disagreement
by sweaterweather21

Ron and Hermione discuss Harry's first Quidditch match, and naturally, it leads to an argument.

Pairing – Ron/Hermione
Prompt – Quidditch
Word Count – at least 500 words

"I know it's supposed to be safe, Ron, but I can't help worrying about him!" Hermione had agreed to join Ron on the way to the Gryffindor vs. Slytherin match, but she couldn't help but voice her opinion on the "dangerous" sport.

This remark confused Ron to no end. He had grown up playing Quidditch, and didn't see anything wrong with it. He aspired to make the Gryffindor team himself one day.

"Why are you worried? Harry's the youngest Seeker ever! He'll be fine."

Hermione stopped dead in her tracks. "It's his first game, Ron! Didn't you see his face at breakfast? He barely nibbled his toast, and then of course Seamus made some remark about getting clobbered. And they're playing Slytherin, no less. You know, I've heard they have a reputation for playing dirty – I won't be surprised if he ends up in the Hospital Wing!"

Ron looked taken aback. "Merlin, Hermione! Slow down. You were there at the flying lessons – tell me you didn't see that dive? And McGonagall was the one who recommended him for the team anyway. Don't you think she'd have something to say if she was concerned about it?"

"Well, remember Neville?" Hermione's eyes were blazing now, and Ron subconsciously took a step back. "That was his first flying lesson, too, and he broke all the bones in his wrist. I'm telling you, Quidditch is a dangerous activity!"

"Isn't that what Skele-Grow is for? Neville's fine. Anyway, Harry's loads better at flying than him anyway. You have nothing to worry about."

Hermione rolled her eyes, a habit she found herself doing frequently around Ron. She couldn't believe she was still arguing with him. Most people would've conceded the point to her by now, but he wouldn't give it up.

"I'm not worried about Harry, you dimwit," she continued, "I'm worried about the other team. I saw some of the Slytherins at breakfast, and they probably all weigh at least three times as much as Harry. Not to mention they were some of the meanest-looking people I've ever seen! They're not going to take it easy on him just because it's his first game!"

"Breathe, Hermione! Have some confidence in Harry – he'll be fine. Wait and see."

Hermione followed Ron's advice somewhat reluctantly, taking a deep breath. "I guess I haven't been around Quidditch as long as you have, Ronald. But I swear, if he ends up getting injured, I'll never let you hear the end of it!"

"It's not likely you'd shut up anyway," Ron mumbled under his breath.

"What was that?" Hermione questioned sharply.

Ron coughed suspiciously. "Er, I said 'nice weather for a game today!'"

Hermione narrowed her eyes, and Ron decided it would be a good time to start walking again. She didn't say anything else, but Ron had a feeling she knew more than she let on.

"Hey look, I see the banner we made! Dean's got it up in the top row," Ron said after a few minutes of walking.

"It does look rather nice, doesn't it?"

"Yeah, that was some pretty good charm work you did to make the paint change colors."

Hermione beamed, and Ron's previous comment was forgotten. "It was, wasn't it?"

Author's Note: I did a lot of consulting with my copy of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" to make sure this matched up with canon. The banner that Hermione helped make is directly from the book, so I thought I'd mention it. Also, please let me know if you see any errors – I didn't have much time to edit! Thanks for reading :)
