The first few nights with Ava were not turning out as Blaine and Kurt expected. She had very bad colic and would cry all night. Which meant Blaine and Kurt wouldn't get any sleep.

"Honey, maybe we should call the doctor." Blaine suggested tiredly.

Kurt sighed, equally tired. "I don't know."

Blaine rolled out of bed and stood next to his husband. "It's ok." he whispered.

Kurt nodded. "Ok. Maybe you should call the pediatrician. Maybe she can suggest something."

The next day Blaine and Kurt sat in the waiting room of the pediatrician's office. Since it was early, there were only a few people waiting.

"Ava Hummel-Anderson." a nurse called.

The two men stood up and Kurt pushed the stroller towards the back where the exams rooms were. They followed the nurse to the third exam room.

"I'll need you to take her out so I can weigh and measure her." the nurse insisted.

Kurt nodded and began to unstrap Ava from the stroller. She began to make little whimpering noises.

"It's ok honey. It's ok." he cooed, as he lifted her up and on placed her on the infant scale.

As soon as she was on the scale, Ava let out an ear piercing cry.

"Oh, Ava. It's ok. You're ok." Blaine cooed, as he tried to hold her hand.

After the nurse got all of Ava's measurements, she told Blaine and Kurt the doctor would be in soon, then left the room.

"I don't think she likes being here." Blaine teased, as he held Ava close.

"I think you're right." Kurt agreed, as he stroked Ava's hand.

Several minutes later, there was a soft knock on the door and in walked the doctor.

"Hello. I'm Dr. Patrick." the doctor smiled, as she sat on the stool.

"Hi. I'm Blaine and this is my husband Kurt and our daughter Ava." Blaine introduced.

"It looks like Ava has had some pretty bad colic?" she asked.

"Yes. Everything we do doesn't seem to work." Kurt explained.

Dr. Patrick nodded. "Well let me take a look at her." she stated. "If you can undress her and put her on the exam table please."

Blaine and Kurt nodded and did as they were asked.

As Blaine and Kurt undressed Ava, she started to cry and scream loudly again.

"It's ok honey. I know you don't like this." Kurt cooed.

Blaine lay Ava on the exam table and began cry as the doctor pressed various parts of her body. Once Dr. Patrick was finished examining Ava, Blaine redressed her and Kurt held her close to his chest. While was against her daddy's chest, she slowly began to calm down.

Dr. Patrick took her seat on the stool and looked at the two men in front of them.

"After examining Ava I do have some suggestions that might help with the colic." she started. "First, try different formulas. She could have a sensitivity to a type of milk, but don't overfeed her. Wait at least two to two and a half hours between one feeding and the next." she suggested. "Also walk with her in a baby carrier. As you can tell, she likes being close to you." she pointed to Kurt, as they all noticed that Ava was slowly falling asleep.

"You can also try placing a fan or a white-noise machine where she can hear it. The sound can sometimes helps." Dr. Patrick continued. "A few other things I recommend to parents with babies that have colic are introducing a pacifier. That sometimes provides instant relief. You can try laying Ava on her tummy across your knees and gently rub her back. The pressure against her belly might comfort her."

Blaine and Kurt nodded as they continued to listen to the doctor on her suggestions.

"But one thing I know that helps a lot is if you swaddle her in a large, thin blanket so she feels secure and warm, just like she was back in in the womb. Most newborns love being swaddled, especially at this age. It's a real comfort to them." she continued. "But what I tell all parents, new and experienced, is when you're feeling tense or anxious, have someone else look after the baby and get out of the house. Just an hour or two will help, believe me. Babies feed off of how you're feeling and reacting." Dr. Patrick finished.

Kurt and Blaine nodded their understanding.

"Thank you Dr. Patrick." said Blaine. "We'll try everything you've suggested.

"Please do and if the colic continues or gets worse don't be afraid to call me." Dr. Patrick smiled as she stood up and shook both men's hands and then left the room.

Kurt placed Ava back in her carseat carrier and then the three of them left the office and headed home.

That night, Blaine fed and burped Ava then laid her down in her crib. After she was settled, Blaine went back into his room and noticed Kurt was in the bathroom getting ready for bed. Blaine changed into his pajamas and slipped into bed while he waited for Kurt.

"Is she asleep?" Kurt asked, once he stepped out of the bathroom.

"Yeah. Hopefully for a little while." Blaine replied.

Kurt slipped into bed next to his husband and kissed him on the lips.

"I love you." he whispered.

"I love you too." Blaine whispered back. "Good night."

"Good night." replied Kurt, as he reached over to his nightstand and turned it off.

A couple of hours after they had gone to bed, Kurt heard cries coming from the baby monitor. He quietly slipped out of bed and tiptoed down to the nursery.

"Shh. It's ok Ava." he said quietly, as he lifted her out of the crib.

"What's wrong honey? Huh?" Kurt asked, as if he would get an answer. He changed her diaper and then swaddled her in a blanket. Kurt held Ava close to his chest as he walked around the nursery, slowly rocking her back and forth, until she drifted off to sleep.

Back in the master bedroom, Blaine rolled over and noticed that Kurt's side of the bed was empty.

"Kurt?" Blaine mumbled. When he heard Kurt's soft voice coming from down the hall, Blaine knew he was with Ava.

Blaine threw his legs over the bed and before he went to the nursery, he grabbed his camera.

When Blaine looked into the nursery, he saw the most beautiful sight. He quickly took a picture and then walked quietly back to his and Kurt's bedroom.

A little while later, Kurt came back into bed.

"Everything ok?" Blaine asked.

Kurt nodded. "She's finally asleep." he let out a sigh of relief. "Hopefully for a couple of hours."

Blaine smiled and kissed Kurt on the cheek. "You're a really great dad. You know that?"

Kurt looked at Blaine with a quizzical look. "So are you."

Blaine shook his head. "No. You really are." he insisted. "I'll show you." he rolled over and grabbed his camera off of his nightstand. Blaine scrolled through the pictures until he came to the picture he had just taken of Kurt holding a sleeping Ava. "See. How cute is that?"

"Aww. That is so adorable Blaine. I can't believe you were able to get that." Kurt cooed. "I love this. Thank you Blaine." he smiled and kiss Blaine on the lips.

"You're welcome." replied Blaine.
