Summary: A short Scarecrow and Mrs King vignette based on The ACM Kid about how the giant stuffed panda came to be on Amanda's front porch. (Actual dialogue and situations used.)
Amanda looked on as Lee brought in all the toys that he had bought for Aleksei. Lee tossed the bags on the coffee table and took out a game console and three games. The other bag contained a very large stuffed panda, which Amanda set on the coffee table in front of her and tossed the bag aside.
Amanda commented, "What is all of this stuff? Are you trying to spoil the kid rotten or buy his affection?"
At Lee's noncommittal answer, Amanda immediately grabbed the panda by the chin and said, "You know, you could definitely buy mine with this guy. This guy is gorgeous."
Lee put the panda on the chair by the desk, but it was soon in Amanda's hands again, her arms wrapped around the panda's chest and her chin resting on its fuzzy head.
Lee looked quizzical as he asked, "What are you thinking?"
"I was just thinking that maybe you tough guys aren't as tough as I thought you are," Amanda replied, rocking back on her heels.
Lee could find no answer for this and shook his head.
Later the next day, after all the commotion of the day was over and done, Amanda and Dean were in the den, Dean sprawled on the couch, Amanda massaging his back and shoulders. Dean was talking nonstop about the case she and Lee had just solved and brought to conclusion. Amanda was nonplussed, since she could not let on that she had anything to do with it. Amanda was almost relieved when the doorbell rang and she got up to answer it.
Lee dropped the panda on the doorstep and did a ding-dong ditch. He didn't want Amanda to see him. Even so, as he rounded the corner on the dirt bike, he stopped and glanced back to see Amanda crouch and wrap her arms around the panda's neck. She glanced around hoping perhaps to catch sight of her not so mysterious benefactor. Lee smiled to himself as a blissful smile filled with wonder and amusement played about Amanda's lips.
As he rode away into the night on the dirt bike, Lee thought, Buy her affections, my Aunt Fannie. I already had them, just as she has mine. She just doesn't know it yet.
